Cyndi Egbert's Articles

These articles were all on Cyndi's website before she took it down. Most are written by her, except where otherwise noted. She gave me permission to put them on the gentlemothering.com website. The quotes below are by Cyndi, too.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a very important part of the whole continuum of pregnancy, birth, and mothering. Babies were meant to be nourished at the breast, and mothers were meant to nurture their offspring in this way. The more you learn about breastfeeding, the more incredible you will find the process to be for both mother and baby.

Unfortunately, things do not always go smoothly. Breastfeeding is meant to be learned from our mothers, aunts, sisters, neighbors. Because we have skipped two and three generations now, there are many women who don't know how to do it, and need to seek out help. There are wonderful resources out there for new mothers, both for help in solving problems and for finding companionship in the company of other nursing mothers who understand just how important the nursing relationship is.

    Homeschooling

Why homeschooling? What possesses people to do such a thing? Well, the answers depend on whom you ask.

For some it's a belief that it is our God-given duty to teach our children ourselves. For others it's a backlash from the poor performance and dangerous conditions found in many schools around the country. Still others simply believe that their children will do best moving at their own pace, in an unpressured environment.

We feel strongly that God's plan for OUR family includes teaching them ourselves. Our goal is to raise happy, Godly children who are capable of living fulfilling lives while glorifying the Lord. In the case of our special-needs child, we have an additional goal of making sure that no one ever gives up on her. She, like the other children, deserves every opportunity to progress to the best of her abilities while leading as full a life as possible. It is our belief that homeschooling will be the best way to accomplish this goal.

    Special Needs

Having a child with special needs is a very difficult turn of life. There are so many things that we take for granted before we find ourselves as the parents of one of God's special angels.

My own special child was my third, Elissa. She was born with a congenital syndrome called velo-cardio-facial syndrome, or VCFS. She underwent open-heart surgery at 17 days of age. She has had a number of medical problems, but overall she is thriving. Chiropractic care as well as breastfeeding have had a huge impact on her health. We are blessed by her presence each and every day.
