Help cooking whole roast chicken dinner in crockpot?
So, I have a whole free range chicken that I want to do for dinner tomorrow. Being lazy, I'm hoping to put the potatoes/some veggies in with that. I've read it takes 8-10 hours on low for the chicken, does it take longer if I put veggies in?
And can someone baby step me through the process? I'm very new to my slow cooker and can't afford to mess it up |
My chicken usually only takes 6 hours on low, I allow longer and then just put it on keep warm when it's done. I am not sure I would so the veggies with it, there won't be room for a whole lot and they don't usually turn out very well. You could do them in a foil packet in the oven seasoned with oil, salt and pepper for not much more trouble.
Oh the process... Basically just chop a couple onions and scatter them around the bottom of the crock so the chicken isn't stuck to the bottom and for flavor. Put the chicken on top ( make sure the gibblet packet is out) then sprinkle with salt and pepper, put on the lid and cook on low setting. You could also add herbs, rosemary is good, or tarragon, or put garlic in the cavity, or slices of lemons on top and in the cavity. If you do the lemons I suggest not making gravy from the drippings though, lemon gravy tastes kind weird. |

That is pretty much how I do mine. Turns out great, every time.
