Home Blessing Challenge?

Anyone up for one? We haven't done one since last spring. I know we have new mamas. I'll facilitate if anyone wants to join. I miss my cleaning buddies.

(Anyone else wish we could tag here? :shifty)

This is how I feel!

Re: Home Blessing Challenge?

I agree, it is hard with kids! Maybe a baby steps challenge?

The original challenge consists of a list of daily and weekly chores and specific challenges. Each task is awarded a certain number of points. each week there is a winner, and then an overall winner at the end. It usually goes 6 weeks.

Baby steps, is a daily challenge. And it consists of playing the 5 minute challenge game. Details in spoiler.

And one challenge that is picked for the day. Example: Clean off flat surfaces.

There's no big huge list, and no points.

:think I'd be up for that.

Re: Home Blessing Challenge?

I was thinking about this, too!
My vote would be something halfway between a baby step challenge and a typical HBC. The HBC's morphed into lists so long, my eyes glazed over and I could not makes heads or tales of it to add up points.
I'd love points, but less stuff, and nothing large project because that always discourages me. I would do a bunch of stuff to do the project, make progress, but never actually complete. Then, I would feel like I if could not call if "finished", I had failed, even though there was a huge improvement.
On my list would be dailies and some weeklies, but just the basic weeklies. Well, I say weeklies, but I really mean basic cleaning that has to be done.

I also like basic decluttering, but for me, right now it is more about tidying/decluttering, not decluttering in the "give/keep/toss" manner. I have been spending 15 minutes in a room of my choice clearing surfaces for the last week, and it is helping and encouraging me. Each day, it gets a little better.

Yes, the huge list was too much for me too! How about something like this. Its the original list of dailies/weeklies. Do we want to add in challenges? Or just try to maintain the basics for this one?

Re: Home Blessing Challenge?

I think that is a good list.
I always felt like the floor care/dusting was a bit redundant.
The other things that seem redundant to me are tidy time and "whole house blessing", unless I do not understand what tidy time is.
I also do not really understand the difference between hot spot, decluttering, and tidying. I guess, though, I am at the point where my decluttering is just taking the time to tidy up, not going through closets and stuff. (I have piles out in the open. :o) And, I have fires everywhere so all my flat surfaces are hot spots!

I'm in. I love these. I am one that likes the shorter list posted, and the points. Points are a good motivator to me (not as a competition between everyone else, but for me, I like to see if I can go higher than the day before, or meet a certain goal in a week. ;) ).

I'm not a huge fan of the big-project added-in challenges, but don't mind them if everyone else wants to do them.

Re: Home Blessing Challenge?

I thought of one more thing.
Maybe instead of "challenges" assigned, we could just have the option of a challenge of "big goal" or project we would like to accomplish, and decide for ourselves what it is.
For instance, I have Mt. Vesuvius of outgrown clothes in my bedroom.(7 people's worth!Seriously, it is longer than the baby's crib and as tall as my 11 year old!) By the end of the month, I have to have it sorted and out of the house or stored however I can. So, that is something I will be working on, but in small chunks. I would not call it tidying, even though it is, or even decluttering, even though it sure would be tidying my room to make the pile shrink.
Or, it could be painting, redecorating, whatever.
Then, if we worked on it, we could claim points that day, or just when we are done.Whichever y'all want.

Re: Home Blessing Challenge?

I'm interested. I used to do them and it was good motivation to get stuff done.

The list still feels too long to me. :think Some of the little things feel unnecessary, like 5pts for wiping the bathroom doorknob, or ironing, or bonus pts for a completed load of laundry. Hotspots and decluttering seem a bit redundant. The list is just so long.

I think I am in. I font know if I can really keep up with it and schooling. But it would be nice to try even if I fall off after s couple of weeks.
