Cadmium in chocolate/cacao
I'm devastated.
I use 1/4 cup of raw cacao in my homemade protein shake almost every day. I get 40% of my magnesium and 80% of my copper from that. Apparently cacao from Africa is much safer but everything I'm finding is from South America. Some cacao powders now have Prop 65 warnings on them. I haven't decided if I'm going to change anything, yet. I mean, I still use Christmas lights and I drink raw milk, which the govt says it's like playing Russian roulette. :rolleyes. And cacao has lots of health benefits. But I wish it wasn't so! https://www.consumerlab.com/m/answer...ark_chocolate/ ---------- Post added at 11:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:05 PM ---------- I just read this and feel a little better. https://thechocolatejournalist.com/cadmium-chocolate/ Maybe I'll try to decrease to 2 tablespoons a day. I don't eat much chocolate aside from that morning shake. |
Re: Cadmium in chocolate/cacao
That’s a bummer! Cadmium is one of the 8 heavy metals (including mercury) we regularly tested for in samples in the environmental lab business. I put cacoa powder in my children’s smoothies. :nails But I doubt it is a significant source of cadmium considering what the second article indicates about other food sources.
