That's awesome! Congrats!! :rockon

Totally understand the mixed feelings. I've moved so many time and each house was a little sad and a little exciting to leave.

Love the idea of the homestead! That sounds amazing.

And I love the outside couch... I had a covered porch at the last house I was in and had something similar. I loved it!

New for me ... I'm on vacation this up coming week!! Hubby and I are taking my bonus kids on vacation. My bio kids are at their dad's in PA, so we will do a vacation with them at the end of July.

I applied for a new position at work... it's looking good for me to get it, but I got a call from my current boss and he wants to know what it'll take to keep me in my position now. Sooo... we'll see what happens with that.

We had 2 girls graduate from high school last weekend!! So excited to see where they are headed. Also, it's weird that 3 out of 5 of my bio kids are now graduated from high school. I'm not old enough for that, am I?!

My daughter came out as pan to the whole family recently. I've been surprised at the family's positivity... I expected more shunning. They were harder on me in my divorce!! I'm glad they are being positive to her.

Not much else is new.

I’m so happy your family didn’t shunt her :heart :heart

Hope and pray the job goes the direction you want it to :heart :pray4

Re: What's something new going on in your life?

I'm wrapping up my first 7 months as an educational assistant (you call it para professionals) after going to school to be one for a year.

I love it, this is what I was born to do. I provide behaviour support

One of the kids I work with (I'm going super neutral here) doesn't have a diagnoses. They doesn't like to be in class, they're calmly oppositional. They're not explosive, they just doesn't listen, don't follow rules. They will just leave. When they go to the sensory room they won't leave. I've been pushed a couple of times (doesn't hurt me or bug me). The principal says in her whole career she hasn't had a more difficult child (and we have some kids in the school who are HARD).

This last month he's started to listen, respect break timers. He doesn't just walk into places he ASKS (he used to burst into classes, library, gym when he wasn't supposed to be there). People are noticing and I'm proud of him.

I made a jar, called it the kindness jar. It has a bunch of little slips on it with positive affirmations. We walk around when he needs a walk and asks people if they want one. They reactions have been so positive and he loves bringing people joy. It is his favourite when staff says "can I keep this?"

I'm not sure if I get to go back to this school in September, but I hope I do.

The staff has a sunshine committee, its a bit different since covid effects some stuff, but someone will use their prep time to bring other staff cookies and a tea or coffee. I thought it would be cool to have a sunshine kids committee, where they also do random acts of kindness.

I love this! I used to be a para. It’s a really awesome, hard, rewarding job.

New for me - called yesterday graduation day for ds18. Had a party. Surprised him with his aunt showing up. I wish people could have stayed later. Dh was pooped though.

We are trying a new church today. We have friends there.

Congratulations!

Having just moved, my advice to pack up all the books first. And if you can put them into small boxes, all the better.

We actually rent a storage space for the time of moving. We pack up boxes and schlep them to the storage space and get them out of the way. For whatever reason, that really helps us with our motivation to pack.

We've been adopted by a feral kitten. Nugget thinks living in our house beats living under a pallet with old insulation in a dusty open barn. We caught her in a trap and brought her in to keep the ants out of her food while she waited for her spay appointment. Turns out she's pretty sweet.. Wish us luck trapping & spaying the rest of the family

Awww baby kitties. Our second cat was a rescue from the dirt road behind our neighborhood. He is super sweet too. We didn’t intend to keep him but he was so cuddly once he calmed down that we fell in love.

We are taking a 2 week road trip so my dad will be babysitting. He seems excited about it. The vet said to wait to spay so she just got shots and wormer today. I’ve declared 2021 sundress summer. I’m NOT a dress person but I’m loving it. It came from the fact that none of my shorts will stay up anymore...and I had a few sun dresses I never wore

I think in my late 40’s I finally found summer clothes that are ME. I found 3 dresses for $10 at goodwill. I also remembered when we moved I decluttered all the dresses I wore once for an event and never touched again. Lots of sundresses and a few other dresses I could’ve make work but oh well :shrug3 I’m a good thriftier so it’s ok. These are the first 3 non work non special occasion/holiday clothes I’ve bought in quite a while.

I wore dresses every day on our vacation even if I was cold :giggle.

Our puppy had surgery yesterday. I made her homemade bone broth for her recovery. She' drank the whole bowl. She's a good patient. :)

I'm going to read all day, so I can sit right next to her. If I'm here, she doesn't need the cone of shame. Win, win!

Awww poor baby. Awesome to avoid the cone of shame :rockon . Our dogs wouldn’t ever drink their broth to recover but both of them loved their homeopathic remedies and lavender massages (obviously not together) ...

I completely understand this. My kids are among the older cousin group and when the younger ones visit, we’re all tired out fairly quickly. Little ones just have so much energy.

Oh yah, I totally get this. All my bio kids are 12+ and are very self sufficient. My bonus kids are 6,8, 13,15 & 18. The younger ones are super busy and always need our attention. The older ones are not self sufficient. So half of the month I'm exhausted when we have everyone here and half of the month I'm recouping when it's just my bio kids. :lol I think it would be easier to have them all full time because we'd fall into a routine like I did when my kiddos were younger.

Re: What's something new going on in your life?

What a fun thread!

I returned yesterday from an overnight backcountry camping trip with six other ladies. It was a test run for me because all of my equipment is brand new. Even though I didn't sleep as well as I had hoped to, I loved it. One of my best friends has been trying to talk me into backcountry camping for four years, and this year I finally agreed to go. We have a couple of other trips planned too; one with a couple of ladies, and the other with our husbands.

I can relate to the bird watching. I live close to a nature reserve, and we have a woodland garden with attractive landscaping for birds. Recently I have seen eagles of all ages, robins, cute ones that look like chickadees, swallows, and a blue heron. I need to stop by the bird reserve to see what other birds are in our area so I will know what there names are when I see them.

We're packing up this week and shifting yet again (shift number 12 this year). This time we're heading back to my in-laws house. I'm less than thrilled but it's not the worst situation. Pray for my sanity!

In awesome news my sister and her husband will be coming with the two little ones for a couple weeks. Looking forward to having lots of hangout time and we'll finally get to hold baby JJ without all the tubes!

Maybe, I don't know. We had a teacher leave and on the last day of classes, the president of the coop offered me first right of refusal on taking over any of her classes. I said definitely the drawing and Highschool art that are on Monday. I said I could do this art history one, and that I would love to be able to do the watercolor class but that I can't make the time work because of the other classes I am teaching, at a different school. We haven't attended the second day before, I have neaver been to the location. But teaching on that day would make it much more financially pocoble to for us to attend in the future.

The communication has just not been perfectly clear partly because the lady who is the president of the coop board and is arranging things lost her dad a week after classes ended so she hasn't been on top of communications, and I wasn't going to bug her.

I think it will be good - but the class was proposed as a talk and craft class and I am going to be turning it into, we talk about art movements/ styles and make our own art in reponce to it. Because I don't do crafts where I tell kids exsactly what they need to do. I need to figer out what mediums I want to use in this class. And how much of hauling things back and forth I want to deal with.

I think I will use many of the plans for this class in the younger classes I am teaching at the privet school.

My kids attended a similar coop class a few years ago. They would study a specific artist or work of art and then do their own art using the same medium. The teacher was using a specific book but I can’t remember the name of it. Maybe something like “13 works of art/artists everyone should know”.

That’s true. I do think most of the artists they studied were European. I think you have the knowledge to come up with great lessons on your own.

Oooo! We got a hot tub last fall. Best. Investment. Ever. I LOVE that thing!

For me - we took my bonus kids on vacation and had so much fun! (Maybe I already mentioned that?!) Next up - we'll be taking my bio kids on vacation in 2 weeks. We don't usually all go together because there are 12 of us and it gets pretty chaotic. So we take bonus kids while mine are visiting their Dad.

We are also prepping for our 2 oldest girls to head off to college for the first time. (They are in same grade).

We re-did our front porch. It was just a concrete slab but dh put a huge deck out there. We will put out 2 30 inch planters and a little patio set so we can sit out and have coffee. Plus really dresses up the front out of home.

DD started pole vaulting in the spring with her HS and joined a PV club and did 2 meets so far this summer and her new PR is 9 feet.

Ds decided a skater themed room was immature and he moved bedrooms and we are re-doing it for his birthday present to an elegant gray with white and black accents.
The double bonus is dh and dd are hoarders* (not really) but it was an "art" room but really so crammed full of projects in a variety of finished states, it gives us a chance to clean it out. I said it is going to stay an art room but it has to be where it can be a guest room. Ie no more DUMP room! This is not the first tie Ive said this so we shall see.

Our friends want us to become tandem bike riders and loaned us one of their 2 tandem bikes and we rode it for the first time today (well any distance we did around our hood the day we got it from them). We did 15 miles this am and it was so much fun. But its not really in the budget to buy one but I want one anyway. :shifty

My parents had a tandem bike! It was so cool. Yes, they are SO expensive.

We had an "art" room also. Yep, it basically was a dump room and we finally accepted that it had to be turned into a bedroom. It had just been a waste of a room. I had my dreams that we could keep art, sewing, and science supplies organized in there and it would be a great place to go and do projects without disrupting the rest of the house. It was nothing but frustration beggars nobody put things away and it became a wretched, disorganized mess. I'm so glad we made the change.
