St.Patrick's Day dessert ideas
Our church has a St. Patrick's day stew supper each year. Every year, the desserts mostly feature green. Green jello, green pudding, green ickyness. I signed up to bring two desserts (generally a 13x9 pan item, but not limited to that). Any suggestions of things that are NOT fake green?

Blondies?
Things that are fake gold? :duck |
Re: St.Patrick's Day dessert ideas
If you want "green but not fake"...
Green grapes, to be dipped in sour cream and then brown sugar. :yum I know, it sounds weird, but seriously? Try it. :yes Although I admit it's hard to serve as a potluck dish, unless you make up little dixie cups of sour cream and then more of brown sugar. :think :shrug3 You could do anything you like and stud the top with foil-wrapped chocolate coins. Voila, gold. Oooooorrrrr....since it's St. Patrick's day and all.... http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.co...ting-idea.html |

Chocolate cake with mint chocolate icing...using mint extract in dark chocolate. Possibly garnished with a couple of mint leaves in the middle; not as something people would intentionally eat with each slice, but just like a little cluster of two or three in the center of the whole cake, to look green and alert people of the mint flavor.
Last year, for a St. Patrick's Day cooking class, someone taught dd to make some sort of traditional Irish "potato candy". :hunh They were balls of potato starch and powdered sugar...and maybe coconut? eta: Here's a link. I stand corrected: there is no actual potato in the recipe. They're just shaped like potatoes, and rolled in cocoa power for dirt. :lol http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Irish-Potato-Candy/ recipe http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...C3&FORM=IQFRBA --some more appealing photos, and lol, if you scroll halfway down there really is one recipe that contains mashed potatoes as the starch (it's pictured as a photo of an old newspaper clipping) |

Pistachio cake
Key Lime Pie (the pie is not really green unless you use food dye, but you could garnish with limes) |

I thought of Key Lime pie or Irish Cream cheesecake. Shamrock shaped cookies?

My oldest wants to make chocolate whoopie pies with mint filling. Of course, she will want to dye the filling green, but it's not necessary.

Yeah, I don't want things to be green. Every year, there are desserts that have green layers that just look...awful. I saw a recipe for Irish Cream frosted brownies, that might be a good idea for one of the desserts.
