Should my sourdough bread be this chewy?
And, by chewy, I mean it almost seems rubbery. :scratch
This bread has nothing but flour, water, salt, air/wild yeast, time, patience and love in it. I've always used a rapid-rise store-bought yeast, so maybe I'm just used to that super-soft, airy sandwich bread feeling. Is my sourdough bread turning out right? Btw, it is edible and tastes fine. I'm just not sure about the texture. |
Re: Should my sourdough bread be this chewy?
Sourdough bread does have a slightly rubbery texture. Especially if you're not used to it, it might seem a bit odd at the beginning. It's also denser than your average yeast bread (and denser still than American bread, I think...) so it will be different to what you're used to.
If you find it too hard to get used to, you can find recipes that combine yeast with sourdough which makes the bread a bit fluffier :) |
Re: Should my sourdough bread be this chewy?
The sourdough we buy has that texture, too.

Okay, I think I'm on the right track then!
It's really ridiculous how proud of myself I am for making bread with nothing but flour, water and air. :giggle |
Re: Should my sourdough bread be this chewy?
And rightly so. :)
