Re: Who uses hammocks for beds?
I just did it to try it out. My DS27mo had a lot of fun in it - I hung it low to the mattress so he could fall out (he's really cautious and doesn't like being tooooo rambunctious). He basically sat in it and fall out sideways. When he laid down it looked pretty comfy!
Then I put DD4mo in it...but it was too low for her. She was scrunched. So I tied it tighter and it was basically horizontal. She was squirming and arching her back but didn't fall out. So if you're doing it for beds, OP, make sure you make the hooks close enough to the floor that your kids don't need ladders to get into their beds ;) |
Re: Who uses hammocks for beds?
okay, so one of my first baby sitting jobs in Jr high was for two MKs who grew up in Brazil (two differnt families which is why they got married and had babies together, ftr) they ALL slept in hammocks, even the 3-months-old-at-the-time baby. I once had the baby sleeping laying on my chest in her nursery. I could have easily fallen asleep like that.:yes
I've frequently dreamed about using hammocks since then. There are camping solutions for the cold air circulating around the hammock http://www.tothewoods.net/ImagesStay...erosa-Side.jpg putting blankets inside the hammock doesn't do much good because the weight of your body compresses them and reduces the heat holding capacity. So folks use things like sleeping bags that go around the outside/underside of the hammock. All that research i did about how to hike the Appalachian trails is finally coming in handy :phew |

Re: Who uses hammocks for beds?
I always wanted to sleep in a hammock full time..my Mom always pointed to an increase risk of kidney disease or some thing. :scratch
Urban legend? |
Re: Who uses hammocks for beds?
FYI I have no intentions of co-sleeping in the hammock. I just posted here since it's our sleeping forum :)
The website I was looking at showed maya wrap type material. Not at all like a typical net with a bar across the top and bottom we're used to seeing outdoors in the US. It claimed it was better for your back than a mattress because it doesn't create pressure points. |
Re: Who uses hammocks for beds?
I have a really cool hammock packed up somewhere. I got it in Peru and it's gorgeoussss. I should dig it out and find a place to hang it. :think
