Brining a turkey?

I've never brined/cooked one before and we have one thawed that needs to be cooked up - Could someone please give me an easy how-to?

Google Alton Brown's Roast Turkey. First year ever that I didn't hate the bird.

I -see to do Alton 's recipe until I discovered dry brining this year. Both turn out excellently!!! Dry brining seemed less messy.

:yes to this

We always brine it now...but, we usually follow a different cooking method now. I think he recommends high temp for 30 min then turkey tent and turn down lower. We do this, but turn it down way low and cook it slow.

I like Alton Brown's too. It is good for beginners.

I do a brine with water, chicken boullion, salt, bay leaf, thyme, and rosemary. It is so so good. I brine for 24 hours, rinse, and then inject with flavored butter. :yum

We have bribed our turkey and I think it is the best way to have a moist turkey. I used salt, pepper, garlic and Brown sugar. The most important part is to make sure the turkey is completely covered with water.

I brine chicken and capon with just salt, water and sugar. I don't find that the rest imparts any flavour to the bird. I prefer seasoning it with garlic & sage before it hits the oven. That said, I'm not sure I have a container big enough to brine a turkey safely, though we're getting one this year.

I use a 5 gallon food storage bucket.

I know it is just autocorrect, but this gave me a much needed laugh today.

We have a cooler that we only use for brining the turkey. We usually make a big turkey, so we need a large container and a large bag. We put the bag in the cooler, put the turkey in the bag, pour the brine in, and then seal the bag. Then, we put ice all around the bag. We refill with ice as needed.
