Dinners that won't heat up your house
 

Per my hubby "no oven"...but I feel like the crockpot also heats it up 🤷🏻♀️.

Ideas??

Is the stove an option? Like, could you cook some pasta early in the morning when it's still cool and make pasta salad?

Do y'all have an outdoor grill?

Yes, stove top is an option. We have a grill, but I am not the “grill master”...is not home at a consistent/predictable time...so we don’t grill super often ��

Do you have a safe place to put the crock pot outside while it cooks? I also have a toaster oven that fits a 9 by 9 baking pan. So I can make enchiladas, lasagna, etc.

I was going to suggest putting the crock pot outside if you have that option. I've never done it with a crock pot but I do have a toaster oven that I set on the back porch when I want to roast veggies or something small and don't want to heat up the house.

I utilize my Instant Pot a lot in the summer. I can pretty much do anything and everything with that.

Outdoor grill in another mainstay for us. I'm not a grill master either but truthfully a little bit of practice and it becomes super easy.

I love cool dinners lately...

Turkey BLT's - cook extra bacon at breakfast time.
Taco salad - you can brown the meat earlier in the day too and just warm it up
Grilled chicken - ask your dh to grill up a bunch of chicken breasts when he is home and then use them for various dishes - salads, quesadillas, pasta salad

I also plug in my slow cooker or Instant Pot outside if it's hot out. The garage is another option if that's safer.

Can you learn to grill? I love grilling. Even simple things taste fantastic on the grill.

My go-to dinner in hot weather is a Muffaleta. (Basically a big pressed sandwich with olives. The original New Orleans olive salad is crunchy with celery and cauliflower, slightly spicy, with two kinds of olives, but I use homemade tapenade. I use whatever deli meats we have as well which is usually turkey or chicken; my kids can't eat mortadella which is traditional on the sandwich and I don't eat most of the pork-based meats.

Other meals:
any kind of dinner salad - Nicoise, Cobb, Taco
tuna melts in the toaster oven
I like gazpacho and cucumber soup, but the kids don't
