Double My Speed?
Have any of you heard of this website? It's supposed to be the title dot come, and it diagnoses issues in your computer and then you can pay them to have their software fix it. Is it legit? Is it worthwhile? Thanks. :)

it's just cleaning your computer of viruses/trojans/etc. I downloaded a free one a while back and posted the link. It's from google :)

Re: Double My Speed?
:poke You know you can always just call Jimi. Not that he'll drop everything to drive up there, but he can do a fair bit of phone support. It is what he does, you know.

Re: Double My Speed?
:giggle Yes, and Jimi is wonderful, but if this kind of thing can be easily done with a free download, I figure he could probably use at least SOME time off.
However, next time y'all are in the area, if Jimi wants to play around and have fun making our comp work better, he can totally feel free!!! |
Re: Double My Speed?
when was the last time you defragged?
If you don't know what I'm talking about: Right click "My computer", select "manage" Under storage, there is a disk defragmenter tool. Select that. Click Defragment. Go to bed. Seriously, this will take a while. Alternatively, Jimi says the best thing to do is: right click my computer, select properties go to advanced under performance, click settings on advanced tab, go to virtual memory, click change click no paging file, click set click ok, ok, ok it will prompt you to reboot computer after reboot, then defrag as above instructions you may want to defrag a couple of times - you want as much blue as possible to be on the left, but you might have a few straggly bits. if you see any red, definitely defrag again. after done defragging, go back to virtual memory settings and turn swap file back on. (that's what you turned off before). set the min and max to be the same size. set it to 1.5-2x the amount of your physical ram. you can usually find that by looking at my computers - properties - general tab under computer. if it's not there, open the task manager, go to performance, and it will tell you physical memory, total, in K - to get gig, divide by 1,000,000. :giggle Jimi also says that website is :td and I am :tu "good girl" for automatically thinking defrag. :roll he's got me trained. If you're having trouble following all that, call either of us. |
Re: Double My Speed?
Jimi says if this is getting stickied, I should add that it's in a slightly different place in Vista or Windows 7. If that's what you have on your computer, then you need to open the start menu, go to run/cmd, type defrag, click ok.
You should defrag 3-4 times / year or if you notice your computer running slower than normal. Vista and newer versions of Windows are set to do it automatically once a week (defrag will tell you the schedule) but for most people that's overkill. |
