Recipee for meatballs?
I'm embarking on my first time making meatballs! Any recipe suggestions? I have ground beef, bread crumbs, onion.....what else do I need? :)

Maybe an egg, beaten. It's not necessary, but I use one sometimes. I also throw some oregano in mine.
Good luck! They aren't hard :) |
Re: Recipee for meatballs?
If I'm making the meatballs to have with spaghetti sauce, I like to put 1/4 cup spaghetti sauce in the meatball mix.
Oh, you MUST have some garlic! Once it's all mixed up I turn the whole thing out onto a large cutting board, shape it into a rectangle that's about 1.5"-2" high, then cut it like I'd cut a brownie, lines up and down. These little squares are about equal in size, and when rolled into balls, make meatballs almost the same size. I like Mr. Food and his recipes. He's the one who gave me the idea to put the spaghetti sauce in the mix. |

Re: Recipee for meatballs?
Yes, I like to bake mine. I think most people put some oil in a pan, brown them all over, and put them into sauce to simmer until done. My grandma made them that way.
To mimic cooking in sauce for hours, I bake them for about 20 minutes, turn them over and drain grease, then pour spaghetti sauce over them and finish baking, about another 10-15 minutes. If you have a meatloaf recipe you like, that can be used for the meatball recipe, too. It's all the same type of mix, just a different way to cook the mix. |
Re: Recipee for meatballs?
Yummy!! Thanks for thehelp ladies! They turned put pretty good...dh had seconds so that's a good sign. I half fried them half baked them...then simmered them in sause at the last minute. And mine definately could have used garlic although I used garlic salt...
Also my sauce was just prego from a jar...however I added a can of creme of mushroom soup and some water to it and it made a really nice creamy marinara sauce for the meatballs. Served over spaghetti and viola!! :) |
