Need help with getting rid of smell caused by a ......

.....dead mouse :bag

I came out into the living room this morning and there was this terrible smell :sick Looked everywhere and couldn't find the source so took the kids to school and came back to look further. I pulled out the big tv cabinet and there was a dead mouse!! Got rid of it but the carpet where it was still smells...really bad:sick (In my defence its been raining for the last 5 weeks almost non-stop here in Sydney so I am guessing he snuck in to a warm, dry spot :giggle)

I have the oil burner going to help the smell in the room and all the windows open but not sure what to put on the carpet. It is under the cabinet so if it takes the colour out its not that crucial but thought I would ask her for help :D

Oh yuck... I'm sorry you had to find that! In the past a mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide had worked well for light colored carpets and oxi-clean with white vinegar as a follow up for dark colored carpets. Otherwise febreeze if you need something quick without a lot of work.

Pet urine sprays that are enzyme based can fix most things IMO. I think that is what I used when a mouse made a nest in my ac filter in the van. That and replacing the filter.

Ugh...I have found a few of those in my house before. The smell is so bad :( Some good ideas posted here, though.

Mice are deceptive little buggers. They're so cute, but smell so bad. And a dead mouse smells even worse! :sick

A mouse died in a closet in our old apartment, and I used Febreze on the area (after I made my husband get rid of the poor thing). To prevent mice from coming into your house in the first place, use peppermint. They say you can also use onion, but I don't suggest that unless you want your house to smell like an Italian restaurant.

Put a stack of scented dryer sheets there. Dryer sheets saved a cabinet once.

Now this will show my ignorance...,what are scented dryer sheets?

They are little guazy paper sheets that go in the tumble dryer. They are usually heavily scented. They are in the laundry aisle by the fabric softener.
