Any diabetic kitty moms here?
Our 13 year old cat was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. We're waiting on the fructosamine test to come back, hopefully tomorrow to see where what her levels have been, then they'll do the curve tests and start insulin most likely.
Everything I'm reading is a little overwhelming, I know it will be a learning curve. I joined a feline diabetes message board so am learning a little...just wondered if anyone here has experience. |
Re: Any diabetic kitty moms here?
Our 14 yo cat back in America (he now lives with my in-laws) has diabetes. We had to give him insulin shots twice a day. It's a tiny needle and not a big deal. He seemed to barely feel it. Insulin at Walmart is way cheaper than anywhere else.
When he was diagnosed, I had 5 kids and was in the middle of 2 big moves (first across the state for a year and a half and then across the globe), and I had so much going on that I was horrible at being consistent with his shots. His main symptom was that he would pee outside of his litter box, which was AWFUL in a rental house with carpet. :sick Since he's lived with my in-laws, my MIL has been great at taking care of him. She takes him to the vet occasionally to get his blood sugar levels tested, and his insulin dose has been adjusted a few times. She has him on some special food with a feeder that's on a timer, and she's very consistent with his shots, and thanks to her he's in great health now. |
