More lunch ideas to pack
Margaret is doing a ballet summer intensive. Her schedule is basically 10:30am-4:30pm
30 minute conditioning class 1.5 hr ballet class 45 lunch 1 hour class (this week rotates between hip hop\ pre Pointe 45 academic based class (varies) today they studied swan lake 15minute break 1 hour ballet Today I packed her a sunbutter/jam sandwich, cucumber slices, blueberries, a snack bag sized trail mix with granola, banana chips almonds and raisins and a Lara had plus her water bottle.. It was more food than she typically eats and was assuming she'd have extra for like snack time of car ride home.. Nope she ate every bite and said she needed more food. School has no restrictions they just ask for a light lunch.. Which doesn't mean low calorie but nothing too heavy..for obvious reasons. She can't do gluten or dairy and we try to reasonably stay peanut free...So suggestions? |

More protein/healthy fats? Help her stay full longer.

String cheese would be good or cheese slices.
Scratch that- just re-read that no dairy! Sorry! What about non-dairy/soy yogurt? Maybe with granola or fruit mixed in? |

It's like the ultimate picky eater cure though.. For dinner was had baked chicken with brown rice roasted zucchini and green beans.. Normally she'll eat maybe 1/3 a chicken thigh poke at s slice on zucchini eat a hand full of beans and move rice around her plate.. Today she ate 2 thighs and some of one of mine.. A decent sized scoop of rice went back for seconds on zucchini and thirds on the beans and then had some Apple slices with peanut butter for dessert. |

I agree with upping the protein.
Meat sticks. Pieces of luncheon meat with gluten free crackers. a wide variety of nuts. My kids love a mixture of nuts and dairy free chocolate chips. You're staying peanut free, but do you do other nuts? Almonds? Cashews? Cashews are high in fat so we love those. |

I'd check with the camp before sending anything with nuts. My kids' dance studio is nut-free, just like the schools. I sent them to one camp a couple of years ago and unless it had a nut-free designation on the label, the kids couldn't even open the package.
Meat sticks are much safer. |

Does she eat a decent breakfast with protein? That should help.

OH yes! I am glad you thought of hard boiled eggs for lunch. That's a great protein booster.

What about pasta salad? One Of my daughters plays softball, and we have found pasta salad is one thing she will eat well during long hot tournaments. I just do a quick Italian dressing over noodles and add in olives and mozzarella pearls. You could maybe adjust it for your daughter’s dietary needs by using gluten free noodles and omitting the cheese. Some noodles have added protein or you could add in mini pepperoni or even cubed chicken.

I know you said she doesn't like hummus, but would she eat straight chickpeas? My kids like a salad of chick peas/garbanzo beans dressed with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and parsley. Or you could toss a few into a pasta salad.

My falafel is dairy free - chickpeas, herbage, and baking powder. Sometimes people add wheat flour, so it's not gluten free, though or fry it in peanut oil, which my kids can't do.
My kids also like roasted chickpeas - we buy them because I just can't get the texture right at home. They are super crispy and come in lots of different flavors, just like potato chips. That may be an option if you just need something to fill in. |

I keep trying to make falafel and it not going well. I am going to go start a falafel thread because it sounds amazing in the summer.

She not been a Falafel fan in the past but I might test it again.
The pasta and chicken was a huge hit and while she was really ready for dinner when I picked her up she said the pasta filled her so that one is a keeper. I bought some crunchy chick peas as well so I'll see if she likes those. She is off till Monday so we get a little break. I might experiment with some of these suggestions though over the weekend to see what she might be willing to try. |

This week we did
Monday nutbutter and jam sandwich Protein bar Apples Carrots Tuesday DF cheese gf crackers Hard boiled egg Olives and tomatoes Strawberries Wednesday Nutbutter and banana sandwich Pretzels gf Apples and oranges slices Cucumber slices Thursday Brown rice with grilled chicken Broccoli and cherry tomatoes Olives unsweetened Applesauce pouch Annie gf chocolate chip granola bar These seem to fill her and she likes. I noticed she wasn't drinking much the first week despite heavy workout classes. This week I purposely snuck it a bit of some salty stuff like olives or a few pretzels to hopefully encourage her to drink more water.. It worked she is now bringing almost empty water bottles home. She is performing this weekend for the local schools back to school rodeo. She is actually doing it with a younger class ( just them and the big girls) but they needed a few filled spots and she still little enough she can pass for a first grader lol. One more week of the intensive. She is loving it. |

Ive gotten kind of lazy and have been going for stuff I can quickly put together but its her finial week...
Monday Breakfast GF oatmeal and peanut butter toast Lunch packed PB and J (sunbutter) blueberries tomatoes and carrots Kind bar She said good but not enough Tuesday Breakfast scrambled eggs and bacon Packed lunch PB and J blueberries tomatoes hard boiled egg cashews kind bar was happy said enough for lunch but was really ready for dinner Tomorrow Breakfast Soy vanilla yogurt with granola and blueberries and sausage Lunch GF crackers dairy free sliced cheese and salami black olives cucumber slices hard boiled egg apple sauce pouch mix almonds and cashews fruit leather We shall see..... this used to be what she'd eat in like an entire month LOL |

How long does this go on? I quickly discovered the time my girls have done camps that some.how puting together lunches is so much harder for me than making lunch at noon time.
