Fast ForWord for memory processing help?
 

Fast Forward. Just wondering if anyone has heard of/has any opinions on the program? My ds, 9, is struggling so hard with reading and memory recall, but it a great problem solver. He is getting so frustrated. We are currently waiting on some results from and educational psychologist w/our school district, but dyslexia and vision trouble have been ruled out. Right now we are working with the general concept of memory processing/possibly auditory processing and language processing. This program was recommend by a couple of people, one being my sister, who is a special ed teacher. The cost is around $1400 for 9 months, so it will make things extremely tight...If it helps it would be worth it, if not it's wasted money that will make it almost impossible to try anything else for awhile

I have heard of it. I can't remember whether it was the cost or the program itself that deterred me. It isn't the best for dyslexia, but since you believe that your son is struggling due to other root causes, maybe the way that this program is different might be targeted toward him. :think

Did you see that they have a winter special right now? And they mention monthly options. What I would be tempted to do is to set up a trial or a one-month membership, to see whether it has any results before committing to 9 months. It likely takes time...a consistent effort over a fairly long time....most any program like this isn't going to show a ton of results right away, but a 9mo commitment seems like a lot without a smaller trial to see some small improvement to know you're going in the right direction.

I *think* that Homeschool Buyers Co-op might have had Fast ForWord as one of their sales before, but I can't find it now. These are two other programs I've seen people use. But again, most of the reviews and such that I hear ARE for kids identified with dyslexia, so I don't know whether these target what you need. But maybe look to see whether these have any better reviews relevant to you, or free trials, or cheaper cost overall.

I have some book recommendations that work on memory, that might be cheaper than a computer program, but will have to come back later to post them if you're interested.

Thanks for those links Quiteria I've checked both the links and am going to look further into them, and yes book recommendations would be great! I'm honestly feeling very lost right now. The educational psychologist is actually an old friend of mine from high school, and we've stayed in touch, and after first talking to her about the problem and and seeing my son, she didn't think dyslexia, but just talked to her friend-to-friend and she says she's slightly changed her mind. I'm still waiting on her to finish scoring up his test and writing a formal plan. He does definitely have memory issues to work with though, and i think it would make a dyslexia diagnosis even harder to work with.
