Menstrual fluid for fertilizer

Clearly I'm interested in alternative means of fertilizing my garden :shifty

I remember reading about it around fall of 07 and thinking of doing it last spring but I was pregnant. Since my cycles have evidently returned, I'm considering doing it again. Has anyone tried this? Do you think if I started to save it now, it would keep? I was thinking of just putting it in a closed container in the bathroom and emptying my diva into it. Or make an official experiment and have one pot of something with menstrual fluid, another pot with some other form of organic fertilizer, another without any.

Am I freak or what? :giggle

Will you tell me about it?

I'm considering just trying it on some marigolds since I will likely give some of my veggies away and I'm sure that would freak people out if they knew.

it's very rich in minerals and high in iron :yes

If you soak cloth pads in a clay pot you can use the water on your garden :)

Wow, I never would have thought to do that but I'm sure it would be VERY beneficial to the plants! :shifty I would never be able to get away with it- my DH just couldn't handle that and I doubt I could pull it off without him noticing the container somewhere :giggle.

I'm curious though and want to know more! :yes

Re: Menstrual fluid for fertilizer

We lived in an apt and had potted plants. My dh...yes, my dh...used to empty my Glad Rag water into the pots. They were the most beautiful plants ever. I'd do it again...if I ever have regular periods. I bet it would be good on veggies...I'd just aim for the roots and not where the "fruit" is.

As far as animals, we have tons of racoons, possums, and coyotes and none made their way to our patio. It would've been easy for them to explore in that direction...but they never did.

People use blood meal in gardens all the time. What do you think it's made of?

I use cloth pads for backup and I pour the "water" on plants or lawn that comes from soaking the pads.

I wouldn't save it, I think it would get so very nasty, judging from how my container smells after sitting for only a few days...

I want to know too...I don't use cloth pads so the soak-water won't work for me...BUT I use a diva and would love to know if there is some way to save/use it without it getting gross in the house.

We also have a huge compost pile too...would you just put it in there (but I would worry about animals).

JITS - I would love to hear the details.

Someday I'm going to start a post about the random things I've learned at GCM.... I'm becoming more inrigued by the idea but that would so completely gross out my dh.
