Why aren't my computer speakers working?
 

I moved my computer from one desk to another, so I unplugged everything and plugged it back in. Now my speakers don't work! How do I fix them?

Are they plugged into the right port? It should be a light green colored jack.
I only say this next part, because I've done it myself ;)....are they plugged into the electrical outlet?
Check the volume on the computer to make sure it didn't get muted. Wiggle the cords to see if maybe there is a short in one of them.

That's all I got.

I just double checked- the cord is plugged into the light green port and they are plugged into the electrical outlet. :yes

The light is on. The volume on the computer is not muted.

This happened when I first hooked these speakers up too, and I don't remember how I finally got them to work. :doh

is your sound card loose? I've had to re-seat cards after moving the computer.

You'd have to open it up to find the sound card. depending on what kind of motherboard you have, the soundcard may not be a separate piece. If it is separate, you'll be able to tell you found it, because it is the piece that is connected to the jack that you are plugging the speakers into. You would just press it firmly into the slot to make sure it's seated properly.

I have found that speakers do not last very long. One of my computers went through about three pairs. Can you try them on another computer just to see?
