painting a boys 'space' room
The big boys have decided they'd like to move out of the family bedroom into a room of their own (I'm feeling both :jump2 and :cry2). Of course first they want to paint it. It's an average sized bedroom, one window towards a corner, currently painted light green which makes it look fairly well lit with natural light. They want to paint it 'like space'. I want it to not look like a cave, it is our house's only mostly interior bedroom. Anyone want to spam me with pictures or ideas? Furniture wise, I'm going to keep it very basic - a bunkbed, white bookcase, low white table for legos, and a medium chest of drawers.

Re: painting a boys 'space' room
I had a recent dilemma. My ds has two windows, but a large covered porch outside of those windows. He wanted the same med/dark blue that is in his brothers' room, but his brother has larger windows, a tall dormer and no overhang to deal with. I wanted to go pale blue, but knew I wouldn't get away with it. We chose a blue that wasn't dark, but has some intensity. Similar to this (the exact colour we chose is in the big book, but not on a colour swatch). https://www.dulux.ca/diy/colour/colo...=70bg%2044/129

What about more like inside a shuttle or sci fi ship? With large posters/prints framed to look like windows looking into space?
Or do one wall like the ISS cupola. |
Re: painting a boys 'space' room
I painted my boys' bedroom Blue Twilight - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Valspar-8-o...Sample/3811945 Their room doesn't have a lot of natural light, so the color leans toward a grey-ish blue. Not sure how much natural light would affect that, but I really like how it turned out for us.
It's not specifically a space room, but one wall has glow in the dark stars and a Moon in My Room hanging, and it seems to work really nicely with that paint color. It's also a shade of blue that doesn't seem like it will feel babyish in a few years (my oldest is now 13 in that room and still likes it), and as their interests have changed, it's a color that works pretty nicely with whatever they want to hang on their walls. :) |
Re: painting a boys 'space' room
We ended up doing light blue with planet wall decals. No way would I paint a whole room black or even navy. You could do a spattered accent wall with planet decals if you are brave.

Re: painting a boys 'space' room
I like the ides of a space shuttle window looking out into a nebula or something. That way it's only a little bit hat needs to be dark.

Re: painting a boys 'space' room
My boys had some stars on the ceiling that glowed in the dark. I know you can get spaceships etc as well, but not sure if thats just over here where I am (Australia)

We're getting the sticker! And then see what fits after we get that up.
