What's your favorite inexpensive dog food?

I have been buying from a local company that delivers 30# bags to my door for $54. It's a high quality, high protein food. The dogs do well on it.

I hate to switch for many reasons, but I need to start saving money across the board.

Does anyone use anything relatively healthy that is significantly cheaper than this? I can shop Costco, Walmart, or HEB.

We have been using Diamond Naturals and order at Amazon. The dogs dont love it. They used to eat Rachel Rays which they really enjoyed but it got too expensive. I throw in some pas sometimes which they love to make it tastier for them

How long does that last you? That amount lasts 60 days for our 70 lbs dog. I have to buy a corn free food for my dog or he scratches himself to death.

Ours costs same as yours, so I won't bother with the brand.

My aunt added green beans to her dogs' food.

About 6 weeks for 2 dogs. 18 and 30 lbs. They eat about 3 cups total per day.

Do they need that much food? Not overweight?

My 70 lbs dog eats 1 cup, morning and night.

If it's a great food, can you try a sightly smaller scoop to help it last.

I think the beans just for extra food for fast eaters.

Our larger dog was underweight until we started feeding her once a day. We give her 2 cups, but she is a slow eater and guards her food and doesn't always eat it all. It gets put back in the bag if she doesn't finish. For the first time in her life she is normal weight.

Our smaller dog was overweight until we started feeding her only once a day. She gets 1 cup. She is a fast eater! But I can't afford green beans either. They aren't exactly cheaper than dog food.

I'd check Costco first. They should have a grain free option.

Dogs are so different. My 75 lb dog eats 4 cups a day and is underweight. I would guess he covers 5-10 miles a day, though. Our 60 lb dog eats 2 cups a day. She's more of a lounger.

To answer the OP-- Canidae All Life Stages is a GREAT good. No corn, soy, or wheat. 50 lb bag is $54 at my feed store. We just switched to Kirkland Chicken and Rice dog food. In the purple bag. Ingredients are very similar to Canidae which is why I tried it. Dogs are doing fine on it. It's less expensive than what I had been buying.

It has to have some rice at least. One dog is high anxiety and she does better with higher carbs. Chills her out! Lol.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will check some of these out.

Just a general guideline: when buying grain-free food, make sure it's not primarily legume based. Lots of articles lately on the issues with dogs and legumes as a primary food source.

I buy Taste of the Wild or American Journey from chewy.com for less than that. However, if you're not looking for grain-free then I'm sure you can find something cheaper again, such as Soliloquy's suggestions.
