when was the last time you defragged?
If you don't know what I'm talking about
:
Right click "My computer", select "manage"
Under storage, there is a disk defragmenter tool. Select that.
Click Defragment.
Go to bed. Seriously, this will take a while.
Alternatively, Jimi says the best thing to do is:
right click my computer, select properties
go to advanced
under performance, click settings
on advanced tab, go to virtual memory, click change
click no paging file, click set
click ok, ok, ok
it will prompt you to reboot computer
after reboot, then defrag as above instructions
you may want to defrag a couple of times - you want as much blue as possible to be on the left, but you might have a few straggly bits. if you see any red, definitely defrag again.
after done defragging, go back to virtual memory settings and turn swap file back on. (that's what you turned off before). set the min and max to be the same size. set it to 1.5-2x the amount of your physical ram. you can usually find that by looking at my computers - properties - general tab under computer. if it's not there, open the task manager, go to performance, and it will tell you physical memory, total, in K - to get gig, divide by 1,000,000.
Jimi also says that website is
and I am
"good girl" for automatically thinking defrag.
he's got me trained. If you're having trouble following all that, call either of us.
