Re: Hurricane Irma
I am back online - just had utilities restored this morning after 4 days of no utilities including ability to use showers or flush toilets very well. Our house was undamaged in spite of vey large and heavy branches crashing down on roof druing the storm. We have a metal roof and it held up so well.Lots of debris in yard my younger on started tackling a chunk at a time each day. Older son in Jacksonville - hardest hit in the entire state. They kept being told might have to mandatory evac but they didnt = their street flooded but water did not get inside. Oldest dd had a few terra cotta tiles blow off roof and still w/o utilities but they are used to camping and have an outdoor kitchen all set up. All kids were very proactive in prparing for and protecting family and property and it paid off . Biggest miracle f ll was that our middle daughter (still tear up at this) had fully prepared that their double wide home would not be there when they returned and had made long term arrangements to live elsewehere after. It went through 100 MPH plus wmds w/o any damage. What i have seen is people learning that they need to prepare adequately and people need to be more dependant on other PEOPLE for help and helping others. Not govt agencies that just cant meet all of the needs
