I try to use it as a reward after I have done some productive things. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
I noticed that I was using it every morning while I drank my coffee which in turn ended up meaning that it took me an hour to drink my coffee. I homeschool so the last couple weeks I have been starting math with my ds while I drink my coffee. That has kept me off it successfully until after lunch most days. Also if I get up and start cleaning right away after lunch I may be able to keep off it for another hour. After about 2:30/3:00 in the afternoon all bets are off. By then my will power is gone and I might be sucked in for the rest of the day/night.
So maybe the idea is resist the urge for as long as you can because once you give in you might never get out.
