Our family has always done a more custard base (basically brown sugar and eggs) rather than corn syrup or other alternatives.

basis is brown sugar and white sugar flour, eggs, butter and vanilla mix and pour into crust of choice add pecans (or add to mixture before pouring doesn't really matter..

cook then cool its actually a really simple recipe assuming one is still okay with like Eggs flour etc...
