That reminds me of two other things. My one year old was just tested for iron and lead (standard check up for his doctor at that age). He is "low in iron" but I hesitate to supplement because iron has its drawbacks (I think I've read that it lowers the immunity?) My kids and I are almost always slightly anemic, which makes me wonder if their standards are a little too high.
Any opinions on supplementing?

OK I just read something interesting. Ferritin (iron) levels rise during infection. So if I brought him in sick, maybe his level would be fine?
This was the recommendation I read in an article:
"the concurrent measurement of two acute phase response proteins, C-reactive protein (CRP) and α1- acid-glycoprotein (AGP), can be more informative."
