It is only if I get pulled over. I never get pulled over! LOL! I just want to be very prepared. I do not want to put myself in any position of question. This is me being protective mama bear. I certainly don't want anything to happen to me or to the girls in my care.
I like to be prepared, and to me, this seems like a normal question. What paperwork do I need to have with me to transport this child across a state line? I guess not everyone thinks like me, but in my mind, this is as important as having my license and insurance card with me.

If someone does pull you over, the officer would be looking for signs before digging into which kids are whose. They can't ask all the questions all the time, when you get pulled over you don't always get asked to prove all the children belong to you or if you have drugs or if you've been drinking or if you have a weapon, etc. You only get asked those things when the officer notices a red flag or if they're out looking for that thing. So if it is a long drive where you might get separated or make multiple stops, sure see if you can get info for the child you have with you. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

And the girl would say she's driving with you to scout camp and you'd have the number for her parents and the troop leader and you'd have scouting stuff in the car and there would zero reason for the officer to be suspicious.

Well, we aren't caravanning, so the troop leaders won't be nearby. Her scout stuff won't be in the car either because that will be taken in the troop trailer. But yes, she'd answer the questions truthfully and that should be fine.
But I want to know the true legal requirements. What do I need to cover my butt!

And yes, I will be asking for a copy of her health forms so that should an emergency arise, I do have authority over her emergency care.
