alton brown's recipe is american classic meatloaf to me. Hubby agrees and we stopped looking for a recipe after finding it:

eta: I'm not as fussy as he is though. I buy preground meat, I also use italian bread crumbs instead of the croutons. I whiz everything but the meat in the food processor then mix that paste with my hands into the meat, mold, stick in the meat thermometer and put in the oven. I do the glaze like he says and it's very yummy.
