FAQ: Why is registration closed?

Question:

Why is registration closed? Why is it closed sometimes and open at others? I've never seen another board do it that way before.

Answer:

Gentle Christian Mothers (GCM) is an online intentional community and is probably not like most other message boards. While we are happy to be able to be a place for asking and answering questions, our desire is that GCM would go beyond "message board" to become a true community for our members -- a group of women who laugh, cry, share, and nurture one another. We close registration from time to time when we feel it would be in the best interest of our community and our families.

Running a message board of this size takes a lot of time and energy. GCM is a ministry that we pour our hearts into. We are, though, all unpaid volunteers whose first ministry and priority is to our family. Closing registration from time to time is one thing that helps give us a little extra time to focus on our families. It also gives us more opportunity to focus on caring for our current members and to catch up on things we need and desire to do to help keep GCM running smoothly and to be a place that nurtures and cares for its members.

Updated May 1, 2008: Registration is closed for the month of May and will reopen on June 1st.
Updated June 8, 2008: I apologize for the delay, but we need to keep registration closed awhile longer. I'll post here when a date to reopen registration is decided upon.

Updated September 23, 2008: Registration is going to be closed on October 1st for the month of October.
