Default Veg documentaries and books

I'm ready to make the jump from leaning to full-on vegetarian, but I need a swift kick in the pants and some inspiration.

Give me your favorite documentaries and books about vegetarianism.

http://www.compassionatecook.com/ is my favorite. She has great books and a wonderful podcast!

Earthlings is a movie
The Food Revolution by John Robbins

Then a more health related book like Becoming Vegetarian or Vegan for Life.

Watching Forks Over Knives and reading the China Study ( yes, the whole book. Yes, I'm nerdy and I know it...) was what did it for me.
Many years ago I read Francis Moore Lappe's "Diet for a Small Planet," and that really got me on the road so to speak (I cut back on my meat consumption from daily or twice-daily to 2-3 times a week after reading it), but I didn't really commit until I saw the evidence in regard to heart disease prevention and health benefits.

Diet for a Small Planet was what started it for me, too. Then this amazing interview with Chloe Jo Davis on the WISH summit.

Is Earthlings horrible? I had to open a new tab so I couldn't see the images on chooseveg.com's video because I thought I might throw up. I had to just listen.

Thank you so much for introducing me to her! I have a seriously long commute and I've been listening to her podcasts and falling in love! She's so inspiring!

I'm reading The Kind Diet right now. I like it so much better than the high-raw things I've read. I feel so much *happier* eating cooked food.

Skinny B**** In the Kitch, Rory Freedman, has a very no holds barred explanation in the intro to the recipe book about why humans should be veg. The way they describe meat, "rotting dead flesh" ew.. and it gets worse

I want to read that one... when I get through my massive stack of books. I went a little crazy at the library book sale. I found Veganist by Kathy Freston there and I'm looking forward to that.

I am impressed. I tried to read The China Study and it was too boring for me.
I liked "Forks Over Knives" and "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead".
I have cut back on some things.
I don't think soy really agrees with me and vegan diets seem to be quite soyful.
Dh and I both would like to move to a more plant based diet though, we both have seen the videos and agree that it makes sense.
I also have high blood pressure and heart problems and I imagine it would help me a lot. I also like cookies and chocolate a lot.
Ds told me that cocoa pods are the fruit of the plant, therefore, he feels that chocolate should be considered a fruit product and that we should eat lots of it.

I got Veganist at my library book sale but I'm not around to reading it yet.

Dana, I'm *nearly* vegan. Not quite but I'm working my way toward it, and I don't really eat soy. There are lots of ways around it. I do use soy sauce and some processed foods that have soy lecithin and such in them, but I don't eat tofu or fake meats or anything.
