Default So waterproof mattress pads loose their waterproofness?

Just curious. Both of the fitted waterproof pads that we use on DS's bed have stopped working after about 4 years of frequent leeks and lots of washing. And I always top the fitted pad with flat waterproof pads, because originally they did the job and were just way easier to wash as long as he hadn't rolled off of them. So those flat pads have gotten a lot of wear too and he's leeking through those, on through the fitted pad, and onto the mattress. He's wearing a diaper at night too which soaks up a ton, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the issue of waterproof pads not working with age or if he really is just peeing way too much. The only pad that seems to keep things from soaking all the way through is our flat pad with the visible vinyl back.

They're only guaranteed for a couple of years unless you invest in the super-tough kind that are designed to withstand commercial hot washes. Yes, they do lose the waterproofness the more often you wash them.
