Carpet Cleaning?

I'd really like to have a carpet cleaner. We have cats that occasionally vomit and food that gets thrown around. I want a simple and quick way to clean and sanitize. I've asked DH for a carpet cleaner for Mother's Day and he wants to know which one to get me. I have no clue.

What are your suggestions? I'll take Make/Model suggestions as well as feature list. I know nothing about these.

Are you looking for a spot cleaner or something to do the whole house? I think for spot cleaning I've heard lots of good things about the Little Green Clean Machine.

I'm looking for something that does both - I think. I want to be able to do the whole carpets every month or two and then spot clean in between. Does this even make sense? Maybe it is just my nesting kicking in...

I used to borrow one of those Little green machines and really liked it and will clean upholstery and mattresses too

I'd worry about mold if I cleaned them that often when I can't open the doors and windows. Silly worry?
