Default Kindle Paperwhite vs. Kindle Fire *New Question #13*

I think I am going to get a kindle for my birthday. I can't decide which I want to get.
I really just want it to read, but might like to use it for other things.
What are the pros/cons of each?
Do you have one and wish you had the other?

I have the Nook version of a paperwhite. I love it for reading. We also have a Kindle Fire. I hate it for reading. It's great for games and other stuff, though.

First I had an iPad, but it became the family iPad. Now dh usually uses it in the evenings. So I wanted a Kindle that would be just for me.

I have a Paperwhite and it's great to read on. I like that I can read on it in bed and it isn't too stimulating the way a brighter screen can be. I like having one device that is just for books; web surfing can be such a distraction from book reading!

This is a good point. I use my smartphone as my computer, and my kindle paperwhite as my library. I dont like reading on screens and the paperwhite reads like a regular book.

That is me too. I use my phone as my computer & my Kindle touch (similar to the paperwhite) as my library. I do use my phone to read on as well.

Default Re: Kindle Paperwhite vs. Kindle Fire

I have the paperwhite and my dh has the fire. We both prefer the reading screen on the paperwhite. The screen on the fire is glarey. But, dh watches lots of movies and internet news things and stuff so the fire works well for him. I only read books - since that is all the paperwhite does. I don't have any desire to watch movies or video stuff on a hand held device and I don't play games or anything, so I have no need for anything other than the paperwhite. It really depends on what you want to use it for. If you only want to read books, the paperwhite is much better. It is way easier on the eyes.

Default Re: Kindle Paperwhite vs. Kindle Fire

Ditto others' comments. I wouldn't buy a Kindle Fire to read on - I'll read on mine in a pinch, but I *much* prefer the PaperWhite. I also prefer my iPhone over the Fire in terms of internet and app use. If you already have a smart phone, I wouldn't even consider the Fire. If you don't, and you want to use it for internet and apps, the Fire might be a good choice for you. While IMO it doesn't do any one thing particularly well, t's a jack-of-all trades at a reasonable price point.

I have had both. My kindle fire won't charge anymore due to docking issues. It wasn't great to read on. It is a tablet.

I have the paperwhite now and I love. It's great!

I love my paperwhite. I am a big fan of the e ink and use my kindle for reading only so I will only get an e reader with e ink. I don't think the kindle fire has e ink.

Default Re: Kindle Paperwhite vs. Kindle Fire

Well, I used my iPod Kindle app to read on before I have what I have now, and I was so bummed when the battery ran out. The backlit screens take a lot of battery, and it was a definite con to have the thing die when I was so into reading the book.

My Kindle(not a paperwhite, just a cheap one) holds a charge for.ever. I can keep it in my purse for weeks and take it out and read it. From my understanding, the Paperwhite is also good on batteries.

That alone is why I'd go with the Paperwhite. You can get online with it, too, although it's not nearly as handy as a Fire or a Smartphone.

The Paperwhite is much easier on the eyes than a Fire, too. And there's not nearly as much to distract you as you would have on a Fire.

I have this case and I like it a lot

http://www.amazon.com/Verso-Prologue...perwhite+cover

It does not have a magnetic closure, which I like so I don't have to mess with it or have it flopping around, but you may want one that is more secure if you plan to carry it with you a lot.

I got this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007R5...ref=mp_s_a_1_4

If you watch the prices you can get it discounted from their warehouse deals section, and what else I like about having the official Amazon care is that if something goes wrong they'll replace it.
