Was this an allergic reaction?
We have no known allergies in our family. But today, Chicken had a strange reaction to...something. She was rubbing her eyes, and suddenly she had swollen, itchy-looking welts all around her eyes. It was obviously a contact reaction to something she had on her hands. The only thing I could think of that was possibly different (ie. she may not have had it before) is macadamia nuts. I had a packet of them and she ate a few. Does this sound like an allergic reaction? Does it sound like something I need to investigate further? How would I do that?

Re: Was this an allergic reaction?
My kids will do that randomly... I treat it as a reaction and give benedryl. But I've never been able to pinpoint a source.
Since it's nuts I think I'd drive somewhere and sit in a ER or doctor's office parking lot and let her have another one. But again, we've never had dangerous reactions, so i'd be a little more... out there... than someone who has. I'd definitely get benedryl and keep it on hand though. |

Re: Was this an allergic reaction?
Happened to me a couple weeks ago. I think the culprit was my cat. I pet her vigorously for a few minutes and loose hair and/or dander was everywhere. I wiped(or tried to) a strand away from my eye and in seconds it was burning like something was in it and I made a mistake of trying to pull eye lid up to get watering and then rubbed. ahh Claritin had it done in 30 minutes or so but it was crazy. I need to stock up some Benedryl. I really don't like taking Claritin because of the anxiety panic issues I had when I was taking it, I've come a long way from those over the past year and don't wish to go back to that point.
