Default A Dust Mop? Is that a joke?

Come on! Dust is the least of my worries when I am thinking about how dirty my floor is. Who actually uses these? When I go to clean the floor, am I the only one who has to deal with candy wrappers, legos, tiny rubberbands from my kid's braces, hair ties, bobby pins, bits of dog food that have been left all over, dirt clods, food bits, nerf darts, twist ties, hole punch holes and other random paper trash, pieces of pens that have broken, random handware like nuts and bolts, grass, leaves, and more?! What is a dust mop going to do with this stuff? Give me my broom please!

I could use a dust mop, but I usually just vacuum.

I think it's for people who can get by with dry swiffering their floors? I'm not sure how that works.

My mom always had one, but I remember it mostly being used for dusting wall/ceiling corners for cobwebs.

I use one. Not in place of sweeping, but after. For glitter, cat hair, etc. Right before the in-laws come over. Not usually used at all otherwise.

I sweep. I don't understand dust mops, either.

7 people
2 dogs
4 cats
House in the woods
Gravel driveway

Dust mopping would be a complete waste of my time.

this. when I had more energy to clean, we would vacuum, mop, steam and then run the dust mop after to help with my allergies. Right now, I can only pick one or the other.

Two people mentioned cat hair. I have dogs and my broom works just fine for their hair. Cats must be different?

I have dogs and cats and I only sweep. My cats don't shed all that much, though. There's much more dog hair from my 2 dogs than hair from my 4 cats.

I don’t have a dog, but my cat’s fur is very fluffy, so a broom just stirs it up in the air. It doesn’t stay on the floor. My swiffer duster traps it. So that’s why I use it

I only vacuum. BUT my dh almost always uses the dust mop. He kind of uses it like a broom tho too in that he pushes the bigger pieces of debris in to a pile with it.

Cat fur is more like bunny fur, IME. Very fine and very light - it just floats away from the broom Even vacuuming can be frustrating because the exhaust often blows the fur around too But I can't see myself having much use for a dust mop without that fur around

Default Re: A Dust Mop? Is that a joke?

I use a dry dust mop in between real mopping on our upstairs.

We r allergic To dust and have wood floors. I have special microfibers for my sh mop.

Typically, I sweep and then dust mop but sometimes I just use the sh mop w damp microfiber covers

I also use olbas on the mop to kill dust mites.

For the kitchen I HAVE to sweep first so I get what u all mean
