What/how do you keep clothes in the kids rooms?
HELP!
We are moving to a larger place next week, so the kiddies will have their own room! Finally I can kick them out of my drawer and closet, but I'm trying to find the best way to do it. Up until now they each have a drawer (overflowing I might add) within my dresser - so I'd like to get them a dresser and chest (one for each kid). But now I'm thinking (I'm attempting to stay minimalist on their clothes lest they get out of control like their mama), do I really need that many drawers for them when I can hang things as well? Do you hang most kids clothes or put in drawers, or a mix of both? Do you keep all seasons in there or switch out/store off season stuff in bins? I want to start their room off on the right foot to keep it tidy and efficient so I'd love to hear how y'all do it!

Re: What/how do you keep clothes in the kids rooms?
When my babes were littles everything was in a drawer. I find hanging small clothes to be an exercise in crazy.
Now that they are bigger and their clothes are bigger more items are hung but still a majority of the day to day items are still in dressers. Last edited by WanderingJuniper; 04-30-2012 at 10:14 AM. |

Shirts get hung up in the closet, everything else goes in the dresser. Sammy has 2 drawers for pajamas, one for socks(and other accesories), 1 for pants and one for misc. shirts that I feel like throwing in there.
Cias' is about the same. socks/underwear in the top drawer, pajamas in the another drawer. Then pants/shorts in another drawer. As babies, everything was in drawers. I hated hanging baby clothes. I switch out season, as best I can. We pretty much have shorts/pants out all year, but the majority of them are kept in a tote in one of their closets. |

Each girl has a dresser. Sweaters/jackets and dresses get hung in the closet. Everything else is in their dressers. I keep a plastic crate in each girl's closet and if they outgrow something, it goes in the crate. When the crates are full, I take the stuff downstairs to put in the storage bins.

DH built this for our daughter and put doors on the front. Easy and it has helped her keep her own space clean.

I hang all of my daughter's dresses, skirts, and nice tops in her closet. Her dresser holds underwear, sleep wear, swim wear, dance wear, play cothing, and one drawer has leggings/tank tops.

Re: What/how do you keep clothes in the kids rooms?
I just bought two Ikea Trofast shelves with drawers for my daughters. They share a room, so we wanted to eliminate the dresser taking up valuable space in the room. We are working on revamping their closet so that both of these fit inside with their hanging clothes separated. The drawers are plastic and the shelf is not taller than either one of them. It's easy for them to use it. They keep socks, undies, jammies, and shorts/pants in the drawers. Everything else hangs up.
I keep off-season stuff separated and out of sight. They are 7 and 5 and will have a mess of clothes everywhere when they have too much. |

We hang everything. The rest can go in a basket in their closet. Wrinkle free, takes up no floor space, safer than a dresser. And, it doesn't if I look in there because there is not some crazy messy drawer.
