Re: Positive Discipline - Week 4
So do you think you could do a family meeting if DH won't participate? I would do it during the day when he wasn't home so it wouldn't be really obvious to the kids that he wasn't participating. I have heard of this before and thought of doing it but he thinks it is "stupid"

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 4
Would this work with littles? Early bird coukd do it but wiggle worm couldn't. We already have some *but she gets to * moments I don't want to exacerbate them.

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 4
We had our first family meeting. We talked about teamwork - where there are teams - games/sports, food service at restaurant, anywhere people work together to get something done. Then we talked about our family is a team, and being on God's team. Then we did a few team building games: follow the leader, hula-hoop around the circle without letting go of each others hands, 3 legged race, lead the blindfolded person, and keep the balloon in the air. I ended with prayer thanking God for our family. All of this took about 1/2 hr and was accompanied by much laughter. Dh and the kids all thought that it was fun. Now I need to watch for the kids doing positive team things and let them know what I saw. (This will be the hardest part for me personally) All in all it was fun. I think every week might be too much for me. I think I will try for once a month and do some sort of character development activity each time.

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 4
When have people found to be a practical time to hold a weekly family meeting?
We have had sporadic FMs in the past, basically to discuss chore distribution, but we have included other disputes once or twice. I like the idea of expanding it to include family building and things And making it a tradition. .. anyway I need to get dh to read the link.

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 4
Here is the link for week 5.
http://gentlechristianmothers.com/co...91#post5876991 I cannot comment as to when works best. I think that will depend on each family's dynamics. But I'm hoping someone else has some insight for you.

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 4
Interested in if you even worry about family meetings when kids are toddlers. It seems like it would have to wait until my oldest was at least 4 or 5. Anyone have ideas? Maybe just a set am time of about 15 minutes a week laugh and tickle and talk would start a tradition though.
