mama-hobbit, I hope your next loaf works out.
About slashing. I do loaves and when I slash them, it sometimes falls and never rises again, so I stopped slashing them. They seem fine. So, if you forget to slash it, don't worry.

Ooh no, is your dog okay?? I've read that raw yeast dough can make them pretty ill.
I mixed up a batch of the dough tonight and will try to bake a loaf tomorrow. I've been craving fresh bread for a loong time!

I am going to try the buttermilk bread recipe from the book today, I'll let you all know how it turns out.
And tomorrow I am going to try the olive oil dough except I need help halving the water amount... 2 3/4 cups halved would be?? |

I have the buttermilk bread rising now (I used half white flour and half white whole wheat, so we'll see how that goes) |

2 Tablespoons = 1/8 cup So 6 Tablespoons should do the job. Glad to help!!
I'm interested to see how the buttermilk recipe compares to the main recipe. Hope you'll share your results. Sounds !!

I'm going to try making a pizza tonight. I wont be able to have any since I'm avoiding dairy for my nursling, but it will be the first time my 4yo has had real pizza. He's allergic to corn. I can't wait to see his reaction.
