Grading and records for the Unschooler
In TN I have to be under an umbrella school or under LEA. Both require some records and grades. The US I'm registering with requires 2 reports with grades to be sent in by January and June. They also said thy grade could be subject to review.
So how do you record grades when you don't do 'grade-able' school work. ESP so you don't have to worry about having them go over and evaluate. This is the most relaxed and easiest US available that is also within our budget so using a different one really isn't an option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Grading and records for the Unschooler
Hmmm, PA requires tons of reporting, but they don't require grades. Can you use "Unsatisfactory, Satisfactory, Excellent" instead of letter grades? If you google "unschooling in TN" can you find additional information?
That's all I've got, sorry

Re: Grading and records for the Unschooler
Msybe can find a grade graph online that correlates satisfactory system to letter grades? Our umbrella only required grsde point averages for high school but diff state. If you have to submit list of subjects each yr and materials used would just do best you can for determining grades.Ugh

Re: Grading and records for the Unschooler
We are using The Farm School as our US, and they are very pro-unschooling. I haven't seen anywhere were they could subject our grading to review. The price was almost identical to the other umbrella schools we looked at. I would feel very unsettled about what a grading review would mean, especially if they don't tell you exactly what kind of work you are supposed to be doing/keeping/recording. You could always just make your kids do a few worksheets on the subjects you have to cover, write their grades at the top and save them for records

Re: Grading and records for the Unschooler
light of mine
sorry it has taken so long to reply, Ive been looking into the US I was wanting and The Farm. I'm really liking The Farm and having some big second thoughts on Gateway Christian Schools I was considering before. I could work around it if I had to, but I think The Farm is going to be a better fit for me. Thanks for pointing them out, I've heard of them on and off but completely forgot about them while I was actually looking into schools.

There is a TN local unschooling group that could maybe answer your question.
