Hand,foot,mouth?
We've thankfully never had it, my grand-nephew has it.
What is the treatment for it? His mother says he's on 3 different medications. Is that something that might be done in a severe case?

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
It is a virus that can be treated with pain relievers or numbing gel, but I don't know of any prescription medications for it. That's odd. It's mostly just a wait it out and treat the pain kind of illness.

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
My older two and I had it. We never took anything. I would guess it was just for symptom relief but I can't think of 3 meds that he might take for it,

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
It's just a wait it out thing. 3 of mine just got really severe cases in July (the older 2 have already had it). It's a virus... I don't even know what kind of medication would be given... maybe something to bring down the fever for people who do that, but that's just for a day. I did use a bit of neosporin with lidocaine on the most severe child during the day or two where the blisters were most painful. Maybe a sore throat spray for the mouth blisters?
I used shea butter on their hands and feet as the blisters started to heal and scab over. One of mine has had the good fortune of having the rare side effect of some of her fingernails falling off more than a month later. It's the disease that keeps on giving, apparently.

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
We just waited it out too, three of my kids got it at the same time and we just did motrin and Popsicle/cold drinks. The only rx I can think of is maybe some antibiotics if some of the rash/sores got infected?

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
Yup. It's a wait-it-out virus. All three of my kids had it in the spring and they were fine, except each had one night where the blisters were so itchy they couldn't sleep. Those night I rubbed an anti-itch lotion on them. I'm not sure we even used a fever reducer.
Now, my sister for a terrible case of it when she was 19 or 20; it tends to be worse if you're an adult. She was miserably sick for two weeks and even she wasn't given any medication.

It's a wait it out. My brother got an rx for pain as he had a really really bad case as an adult. From us but we u texted him unwittingly

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
I get it every time it comes around. It's a virus with no treatment other than symptom management. Some people (*cough*my son's mother *cough*) really feel the need to have a prescription for everything.

Re: Hand,foot,mouth?
Ah, yes. I think this is my nephew and niece inlaw. And now my 17 year old niece has it, she's the 2 yr old's aunt, she shared a drink with him last week.
