I tried to search for threads about anemia, (from the beginning of the forum's time) and the search gave zero results..
![]() ![]() After suspecting something was wrong, I got some labs done and I am in fact anemic and was told to take 325mg iron 3x day and get retested in a month... I already eat an iron rich diet, and cook on cast iron 1-2x a day, no heavy periods... etc... so I was hoping the addition of Floradix liquid iron supp. would be enough, but I was told "no way" (By an ARNP). My question, has anyone here brought low iron levels up to a healthy place with a more natural supplement? I really want to feel better, so I'll take the stuff they suggest if that's the best option..

I'm not anemic in the traditional sense. I have low ferritin. I take Ferasorbe by Thorne. IME, It is a bit easier on the gut than some of the other stuff out there.

I had low ferritin and Floradix helped increase it, but I also stopped eating gluten. I believe I was having absorption issues.

What kind of iron was recommended. It is the form of iron that matters. She may be prescribing the right kind but a higher concentration than floradix. I think floradix works best from my experience but I don't want to go against a doctor's advice.
One big thing is to take chlorophyll with the iron. Your body absorbs iron much better that way. |

she wants me to take ferrous sulfate, so I guess i'll do that... LOL
i'm thinking i need to be more strict with my gluten intake... I have really slacked off on how strict I am (little nibbles once or twice a month), because I'm also deficient in some other nutrients as well ![]()

Floradix didn't help at all and caused GI pain for us. I think it depends on the person because I know some people do really well on it.
Ferrabsorb by Thorne helped very quickly with no GI upset. Raw Iron by Garden of Life is another one that helped with no GI upset. Florastor (non-colonizing probiotic) or Primal Defense is something I'd always consider when taking an iron supplement because any unabsorbed iron could cause an imbalance. Wherever there's a deficiency and you are sure your diet is has plenty of that nutrient, I always think of an imbalance in the gut biome, first. Do you know if they checked your ferritin level?
