Re: Question: Am I doing this right?
Maybe you can also and gain in confidence that you really are is best teacher and it is ok to have to kind of adjust and figure out as you go along, rather than it be about you doing things right or wrong?

Re: Question: Am I doing this right?
Well it's not so much a lack of confidence than a lack of answers all year when I tried different things. Researching methods I didn't know before helps. It made sense to me that studying CM method might help me carry out a CM based program. I actually enjoy the search. I can just get obsessive with it.

Question: Am I doing this right?
So it's been a great first day of 2nd grade! We used Language Lessons for Today (adapted by MFW from Primary Language Lessons by Emma Serl, 1911.) Following the guidelines for this book, which was similar to the approach you all were telling me that you use, he did wonderfully! I mean, such excellent descriptions, complete sentences, didn't get grumpy or bored. I'm very glad for this. Just had to share.

We both got very frustrated at times but I don't recall him getting frustrated with short readings specifically. Iirc, he was happier feeling he could succeed at narrating the smaller amounts rather than only remembering the last sentence in a longer passage. I have tried various phrases, including "tell me what happened so far", "tell me what happened from the beginning in order", "narrate that please", "tell me 3 things you remember", "ask me 3 questions from the reading". Also, sometimes I retell the first sentence to help him remember how it started, and occasionally I let him read and I narrate, to model. DS hasn't responded well to being asked to act it out or draw his narration. HTH Sent from my GT-S5300 using Tapatalk 2

Re: Question: Am I doing this right?
Seems it is JUST Bible things that make him quiet during narration. I'm going to stop asking for it at those times, and just ask if he has any questions instead.

Re: Question: Am I doing this right?
If he doesn't respond to that (never has any questions) what about doing things like "wondering" with him. In other words, YOU initiate the questions. "I wonder how the disciples felt when Jesus told them to do that. I wonder if they were scared..." That kind of thing.

Re: Question: Am I doing this right?
Thats a good idea.It could very well be that he is so sensitive to spiritual matters that it cant be a school subject for him.I have used curric that uses scripture but not ever had Bible as a subject with my kids
