Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
Does he eat gluten free bread? You can make PB&J sandwiches and freeze them. He can microwave them for a bit to thaw them out if he wants. Easy to make ahead and grab!

Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
Well I certainly eat them when I am lactating. This was my very favorite thing I froze when very pg with ds2. I make them for new moms. They are not scientifically proven to increase milk supply, though. They make an excellent, filling snack for nursing moms.
In case no one noticed I forgot the sugar in the original recipe. I went back to edit it. So if you already made them, I am sorry. If not then please add the sugar to your recipe (or make them without and tell me how they turn out )

Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
Has he had his blood sugar checked? The smell he gets is concerning.

But I hadn't thought about blood sugar issues, I will bring that up to him and do some research.

Smoothies or a vegan protein shake. I have to eat frequently and found drinking my calories helpful when I am busy.

Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
I would assume the smell is ketones, though it might not be. Ketosis happens when you don't get enough carbs. Burning protein and/or fat in the absence of carbs causes the production of ketones as a byproduct. This can happen when not enough carbs are consumed or when they can't get into the cells due to lack of insulin (type 1 diabetes) or ineffectiveness of insulin (type 2 diabetes).

Today we talked about how he isn't taking care of himself, and about some things I can keep on hand to eat, but that *he* needs to do it and stay on top of it because 1) it isn't good for his body. 2)he smells awful until he eats and it seriously bugs me. And 3) he is an adult and I don't need another kid, I'm already feeding 4 multiple times a day and 1 around the clock. I can get a glucometer pretty easily, would it be advisable to check his bloodbsugars for a few days?

Will he go in and tell them this? They will immediately do a finger prick and A1c.

Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
I bought 100 test strips from amazon for $17 and a very cheap meter. It was recommended by someone with diabetes. Accurate.
will he use magnesium oil for the stink?

Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
I wouldn't buy a meter. I would insist and make an appointment or drop him at the ER.

Re: Inexpensive, high calorie, easy to grab foods
He could go to the cvs minute clinic to be checked. We don't have traditional health insurance and he's not subscribed with our DPCP. but I really don't think he has diabetes, my gut says it is just simply not eating enough/often enough. He's fine the days he eats 3/suare meals a day with snacks. He has had this off and on for years and in 2010 I did make him go to the doctor to be checked because he was also peeing a lot they sent him for blood work and did a 24hour urine catch, everything came back fine. He was drinking primarily black or green tea throughout the day which was causing the frequent bathroom trips. Oh he's also had a runny nose off and on for weeks, it will hit suddenly like an allergy attack so I think that is also contributing to the sinus smell when he's not eating enough.
