Help! Young Child with Cavities
My 5 year old has cavities in all of her rearmost molars. So, four cavities, and since some of the damage is between her teeth, the surrounding teeth are in danger.
When we went 6 months ago and the cavities were found, they said they would just watch them and we can bring her in every three months to be checked, so we have been doing that. The dentist does not want to do anything about them since she is not hurting. The dentist said to limit drinks to water and milk only, no hard or chewy candy, and for me to brush and floss her teeth every morning and night. (I had been letting her brush in the AM and I would brush before bed, and she flosses by herself) That is all. I don't want her to wind up needing a whole bunch of work because they spread. Do you all know of anything we can eat/take/swish/do to maybe help treat them at home?

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
Xylitol- gum, tooth gel, not sure what other products there are. Do a search on it. Other moms know more about it than I do, but we do xylitol gel once a day after tooth brushing and also xyltiol mints (don't want to start gum yet).
Have you heard about this option? http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/07/12...m.facebook.com Our dentist brought it up. We decided not to do it because the decay on ds' teeth is on his front two teeth, but if it were on molars, I would definitely be looking into it!

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
Definitely take the steps to heal them. But also find a laser dentist in your area. Laser dentists do NOT drill! The laser destroys the bacteria & they plug the hole (usually the size of a pinhole) with filling material. They usually don't need anesthesia. I'm not sure how they access the spots inbetween teeth, so a laser dentist will have to answer that one. Laser dentistry has been around since the 90s.

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
People have verrrry different and strong opinions and experiences about this.My experince is that my dd had decay in baby molars alsoin between teeth and we started flossing and using a swab with half water and half peroxide on areas. Her baby molars came out eventually,no problems with decay spreading to adjoining teeth and no damage to perm teeth.Since then have learned about other things and we have quickly healed some decay by using coconut oil and things like butter oil and cod liver oil
---------- Post added at 06:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:10 PM ---------- Also 2nd that if you do decide to go to a dentist look for a laser therapy dentist or one who does air abrasion rather than drill and fill.I a not familiar with the laser kind but with air abrasion usually they dont even need novocaine

And what do you mean about "using" coconut oil? Eating it? Putting in on the teeth?

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
We had that situation with my oldest around that age, although it was two spots not four found via x ray. We watched them for awhile at the pediatric dentist, and did flossing but quit fluoride, and minimal sugar. We switched to a holistic dentist when the pediatric dentist didn't want to wait anymore to drill.
It was around this time we changed our diet for other reasons and I also got the Cure Tooth Decay book which was similar to what we were doing for the digestive, allergies and eczema type issues. The holistic dentist was fine with waiting. Eventually the teeth fell out and healthy adult teeth came in behind. The holes just looked like little pits in the teeth surrounded by white healthy tooth. |

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
Yes Amy would just touch the swab with peroxide on area that had decay, tried to do once a day and both to the coconut oil,in diet and putting some on toothbrush and brushing with it.

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
My 6 y/o has 6 cavities in between his baby teeth. We have no fluoride in our water. I'm wondering what to do.

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
In your case, unless it is causing pain, I'd probably just wait it out. He'll lose those baby teeth soon and adult teeth will come in.

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
This is a really helpful thread. I took dd1 to a new dentist last week and they said she had two cavities and wanted to drill them (baby teeth) and burn and seal all the other teeth. I'm taking her back to our holistic day just this week to get a second opinion and make sure I've done due diligence, but we're not drilling her baby teeth. I had a lot of cavities as a child and having them m fixed was so traumatic. As an adult my oral health has been fine (no pain or concerns) since we changed our diet, as long as I avoid sugar and take my supplements (prenatal, good fats,, gelatin, clay) I'm more than great.
I'm hoping the holistic dentist tells us not to worry about it, I've got her on gelatin and clay daily in top of good vitamins, I'm hopeful...

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
Not if taken at a different time of day. it adds trace minerals and is good for the gut. We have some in a smoothie at breakfast and take vitamins after lunch or with dinner. We are doing it as a parasite thing mostly, not long term.

Re: Help! Young Child with Cavities
I just got back from her check. So far, no spreading. He painted her teeth with silver. Still watching.
