Bread Machine Recipes?
Several years ago I acquired a Toastmaster BreadBox breadmaker at a yardsale. It came with the user manual, but not the recipe book.
After two moves and a lot of digging, we finally found it the other day, and it is currently churning away on the counter for the first time since I bought it. Egg bread, if anyone's curious, since that was the simplest looking one I could find that I had everything for. Does anyone know where I can find good info, recipes, tips & tricks, for a beginning bread-maker-person?

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
1 egg
1.5 cups HOT water 1tsp sea salt 1/3 cup oil (I use canola even though it's evil, due to allergies) between 1/4 and 1/2 c sugar, depending on if you want dinner rolls/bread or cinnamon rolls ;-) 4.5 c. flour 3tsp bread machine yeast Dough cycle, then shape, let raise, and bake 15-25 min @350. (15 for dinner rolls, 20-25 for bread loaves, 25 for cinnamon rolls) That's my go-to, and it even got rave reviews from my MIL although she thought my husband was lying and insisted it was storebought at first |

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
Wonder Woman, that sounds YUMMMM!! More detailed instructions, please, DH heard me say "Oooh, cinnamon rolls!" and wants some now!
Anna, I'm interested in just about anything, I'm just getting started with it, but if you have some that you particularly like as sandwich bread, that would be fabulous, because my whole motivation for getting the darned thing out was so I could stop telling DH "No, you can't use the expensive, healthy, yummy bread from the ethnic stores for daily sandwiches, it's too expensive, use the $1/loaf junk from Jewels instead", and start telling him "We don't have to buy bread, I made some last night!" Because I figure I can spend $20 or so on extra milk & eggs over the month, and the 25lb bag of bread flour I bought at Sam's last month should last a couple of months at least, and it was cheap. So in the end it might be a wash cost wise considering that DH buys 4-6 loaves of cheap sandwich bread but we enjoy our table bread as well, for french toast & dinner bread & such, but it will be fresh, it will be homemade, and that's gotta be healthier, right? ---------- Post added at 12:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:06 PM ---------- Oh, and btw, the Egg Bread turned out okay. I followed the recipe exactly, but it managed to over-rise and flow out of the pan, so when it hit the bake cycle there was smoke everywhere. But it didn't set off the detectors and when it was done I got it out without too much fuss or destruction. And today we all tried it (JJ too, with some of his puréed squash) and it was quite the hit! I think I might ask MIL to make some french toast with whatever's left tomorrow morning.

I have this going in my breadmaker right now. I made a few substitutions. I used freshly ground whole wheat flour, honey instead of sugar and coconut oil instead of canola. It smells heavenly already.

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
I inherited a bread machine and have only used it once or twice in 5 years. It's funny that you post this, because I pulled my machine out yesterday, too! I made a random wheat recipe that I found online. It turned out pretty dense. The inside is good, but the crust is thick and hard. I'm sick of buying bread. I need to figure this out and start making it! |

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
That sounds yummy, Punkie!
For cinnamon rolls, I do the dough cycle on my machine, then take the dough and spread it out on a floured surface. I spread it with a stick of butter (dairy free "butter" in our case). I then spead a layer of white sugar, enough to cover the surface, then a layer of brown sugar. I pat it down, then sprinkle roasted cinnamon over it pretty thickly. I then take vanilla, and drizzle that over the surface. Roll it, slice it an inch thick, let it raise for 40 minutes or so. Bake @ 350 for 20-25 min (I use a flat cookie sheet w/just a little raised edge, it's better than a deep baking pan), and cover with a little powdered sugar while hot. I have been told these are pretty much like crack, and I do know people who are addicted to them. They are not remotely healthy.... |

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
Evil. Evil evil evil. *runs off to make*
*runs back bcs I remembered I had questions* My egg bread was delish, but it came out pretty dense too, despite rising high enough that there was burnt dough all around the edges of the pan and down inside the maker itself. I followed the recipe exactly, and we're barely over sea level here Mind, I simply let the breadmaker run on the setting recommended by the recipe. There was no removing, shaping, separate baking, etc, because I have no idea how to do the "shaping" part. Talk to me, pretty please!

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
I'm never happy with how a machine bakes bread, either.
So I use the "dough" cycle, and once it raises, I make it into whatever shape I need. For rolls, I break it into pieces the size of 2 golf balls, tuck the ends under it, and flatten slightly. Let raise for 30 to 40 minutes and bake. For bread, I divide the batch in half and place it into 2 bread pans, let raise for 40 minutes, then bake. |

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
My loaf today turned out pretty good. I just tried a little bite, and it wasn't as rock hard as my last batch.

Re: Bread Machine Recipes?
Hmm... I've only got one bread pan for the oven... Is there a way to tell when in the cycle to pull the dough out, divide, and let half of it bake in the machine?
