Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
Was coming back to suggest buying those inflatable beach balls that can be used to play catch with inside and out

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
We used to have a crash pad. I can't remember what it was made of but maybe a beanbag chair and some large pillows or cushions. He would launch himself there over and over.
Balance boards are good too. Water play meets a huge number of sensory needs and has always been my go to when everything has gone sideways, we just get out the hose and get our happy back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
A friend of mine has kids with A Lot Of Energy. She put an old mattress on the floor for them to jump on and they've got a pull up bar in a doorway that they use a lot.
I wonder about some of the playdoh and putty type products sold for sensory therapies as quiet activities? |

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
Crayola model magic is AMAZING if you're looking for a clay that isn't messy! I bought a big tub of it last Christmas and it can be re-wet (1-2 seconds under hot water and then massage it in until clay feels stretchy again). And it keeps a "like new" tecture. It doesn't crumble or make any mess on the table like other clays and my sensory kiddos love the texture.

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
Seriously small house problems. It was also much easier when we had a playground nearby (though that was unusable 4 months out of the year). And easier when we didn't have a baby

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
So many awesome ideas!!
I put on our bathing suits to play with the hose and use the plastic slide. I am realizing that I've been subconsciously hoping my boys will just calm down like their sister and play with Littlest Pet Shop for hours and hours. Not happening. Barrels of dirt, dump trucks, bricks, wood, slide, trampoline, oodles of little locks, and extremely inefficent ways to do chores is going to have to become the norm around here. Hey,maybe I'll lose weight... |

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
I remember very well my younger son coming to me wailing that his little sister was making families out of his dinosaurs and putting them in her dollhouse telling me they CAN'T be families - they were ferocious. He has always been very verbal

My C is a mellow little guy and will play house and doggie with A. But lately,he also wants to "run very fast",hit things with my broom and vault on and off....everything. I shared a lot of these ideas with Hubby. Tying the chairs to the table is genius. I wish I had done that two kids ago because toddlers use them as step stools. A crash pad or small, foldable slide (our outdoor one is way too big) is also in the works. He wants to know where/how a pullup bar works in the house. I have lots of hope and dreams this move is going to be super good for our family. |

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
The family I mentioned put these in the entry to a room the children use as a playroom primarily. I would look at reviews for the bars and see if people mention where they chose to put them. Different styles install differently so check out several.

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
Those brooms sound like a real draw right now. Will the laundry room in new place have a latchable door?
---------- Post added at 12:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:57 AM ---------- You can still be implementing things like running is for outside and balls are for throwing not (fill in blank).Eventually they get a little older and start to get it.

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
I'm still very grateful to and proud of my good mother who allowed me to "legally" paint and draw on the wall. It was in the early 60's and considered as really revolutionary. Mom had the walls of one room covered with drawing paper and I could draw there as much as I liked. I can't remember much of it but my dad has taken pictures of me drawing on the wall. .
My DS3 has bought a large, old house lately. When I visited him I was happy to see how he had left the old, ugly wall papers on their place in one of the rooms. And he lets his toddler daughter to decorate the old wall paper. . |

Re: Practical ideas for two destructive little boys?
You've gotten some really good ideas. Ultimately around here the result was reminding myself things are just things and growing adults is dirty and loud. We tried so hard to have almost everything be ok for kids if they could reach it it was ok.
They broke everyone if my glass Dolphins I had collected since I was 11 when they were all under 4 years old. I thought I had them on a high enough shelf in the bathroom. I was wrong. Of course because they were Dolphins they needed to swim in the ocean that happened to also be our porcelain sink. :/ That was the day that changed how our entire house was set up. I'll have nice things again in about 3 years. |
