Needing apple recipes
So we took the kids to an orchard this weekend to pick apples...and now I have 5 pounds of hard, tart, Arkansas Blacks that I need to find a way to use. I'm looking for anything really, but preferably without tons of sugar, yet still edible.
Anyone have any ideas or go-tos? |

Re: Needing apple recipes
They sound like they would make great pie!
I'm a big fan of chunky applesauce. or apple butter. or apple crisp. I have a whole pinterest board for apple using.

Re: Needing apple recipes
We LOVE crock pot (or instant pot) overnight apple oatmeal here!
You can google for a ton of recipes. I had a recipe but have no clue where it is... just in my brain now. 1 c. steel cut oats 1.5 c. water 1.5 c. milk (or any 3 cup combination of liquid) 2 diced apples raisins (you can sub or add anything you like here -- i've done a wide variety of fresh fruit, dried fruits, nuts, etc) ground flaxseed cinnamon dash of salt couple of pats of butter on the top Cook overnight on low (8 hours) and wake up to a delicious healthy breakfast! ---------- Post added at 11:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 PM ---------- Apple cobbler is another super easy yet uses lots of apples recipe that we fall back on a lot this time of year. I have two gluten free children so my recipe will be slightly different to accommodate that but again, you can google. I make mine with very little sugar and the kids still love it.

Re: Needing apple recipes
I also peel and slice them and freeze them just like that, 2 to a ziploc, to use in apple oatmeal during the winter.

Re: Needing apple recipes
You can also turn the frozen apples into applesauce very easily. Put into a pot, add a bit of water and cook down.
