Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
I think it can be harder on us (as caregivers) but even more important to remember for those kids who are phsically/intellectually more mature that emotionally they still need us the same (or sometimes, more) than their peers do. I think this continues beyond infancy (5 years or whichever age they make the 'jump') as even older kids who are developed/bright may often be expected to act more mature emotionally than they are capable of.

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
I love this concept as well, and it explains so much of my instinct with littles that yes, they're very smart, but they're LITTLE, you know?

That was very helpful. Thank you! Can you explain more about what you learned about infants until 5 in hebrews? Never heard that before.

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
Thank you, I struggle with this because my 4 year old is as big as an average 6 year old, and shows great maturity in some things, and sometimes it takes my by surprise to realize he is only 4, and I have to catch myself when I realize I starting to expect him to act the age he looks and not the age he is.

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
I posted in this thread as my son was turning 5. Now my daughter is less than a week away from the same milestone. It's great to be reminded of all of this again.

This thread has helped me so much over the past few years. Now my oldest baby is turning 6 next month, and I don't want to believe it

Re: A radical idea - viewing kids as babies till 5
I loved this. I found a huge part of my failures in parenting comes from unrealistic expectations. When I put my child back in the frame of what can reasonably be expected of them, things go much smoother.
