Look at what I got!!!!
And teach me how to use it .
My exSIL gave me this today. I am super excited because I have always wanted one, but I have no idea what to do with it. I have never ever sewn before Is there a sewing101 somewhere? |

Re: Look at what I got!!!!
you put two pieces of fabric together, put them under the foot, press the foot down (there should be a lever) and then put your foot on the pedal!
the rest you kind of just have to learn a feel for ---------- Post added at 08:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 PM ---------- oh, and if it helps, get some scrap fabric and play with each of the tension/stitch settings so you can learn which one you like the best. also, make pillows. pillows for dolls and pillows for your kids and pillows for your couch and pillows for the local nursing home residents. seriously, pillows are the best starter project!

Re: Look at what I got!!!!
That is a super awesome machine for a beginner! I've recommended that one many times. I actually had an aquaintance who got her high-end sewing business off the ground using a Huskystar. You can trade up at your local sewing machine shop when you're ready for something fancier, too I'd call up my local sewing machine shop if I were you. They usually give lessons

I realized last night, after I posted this, that a dear friend of my actually teaches a sewing class. So she said she would help me learn how to use it She also said that it was a great machine . |

Cool! If it doesn't work out with your friend, a lot of vacuum/sewing machine repair places have classes, as well as fabric stores. Have fun! Show us what you end up making!

Nice score Heather! I'm sure you're very excited. I say go with whatever gets you excited. If you want to sew up coasters, pillows or even small pouches, anything that keeps your interest will be a good first project.

Re: Look at what I got!!!!
Very nice! I remember the excitement when I got my first machine. It lasted about 20 minutes. Then I tried to turn it on. LOL. It was a love/hate relationship for a while. Some days it still is. I'm on machines 4 and 5 now so I must love more than hate it. I keep sewing.
