Just chatted with customer loyalty (transfered from regular customer service) dropping bill to $20.88 for 12 months...down from $65!

Pays to complain.

But, why, oh, why does it have to be like this?!

We pay about that for Comcast Internet which is the only high speed available in our area. They don't care if people threaten to cancel they know they are the only provider unless you want satellite or something way to slow to stream with. And we live in an area with really high utilities across the board. Even our water bill is more than our Comcast Bill!

That's the issue we have whether it's Century Link or Comcast. They say they will honor a deal and then actually honoring it is a whole 'nother story.

In case it helps in your quest, we were Comcast for a long time, and have been on Century Link and the service is simply degrading (and in fairness our bandwidth needs have increased, but it still wouldn't serve us well). We are looking to probably go back to Comcast but I am

for any additional info in our area. The prices you listed are on par both with what is 'real' and what is supposed to be a 'deal', IME.

I hate hate hate the internet game. Every 6 months I have to spend time on the phone with them arguing for prices that they always end up conceding to, but still put as a "promotional" period, which simply buys me time.

I can't imagine what people pay who don't regularly call in to protest.

"Regular" prices are absolutely stunningly exhorborant imo.

Urg Century Link. We have internet thru them for around $30 a month. Modem rental $10 a month. However, we were getting billed for a phone line and long distance neither of which we needed or wanted and it was pretty hard to get that fixed. Dh eventually found he could get somewhat better customer service by using the online help chat rather than calling.

Have you asked them to buy the modem? Ours was $99 3 years ago. Much cheaper than paying $10 a month for it.

Is it possible to call and complain without threatening to leave? Because, yeah, I get mad every month when I look at our DSL bill: $19/mo more now than 7 years ago, for the exact same thing

My dad calls their internet company each year to get a lower rate - we need to do that, but I don't know how to get to the customer loyalty department without first threatening to leave. (When we were switching electricity providers because of their completely ridiculous and imo scammy rate hike, our old one offered us their promotional rate to get us to stay, but we were committed to leaving.) I don't want to go anywhere else, because cable is more expensive than our dsl, even at its current high rate. I just want them to give established customers the same rate they offer new customers, kwim? But IDK what words I need to use to get there.

We pay $85, internet and basic cable, Comcast. That's the cheapest plan (internet alone is no cheaper). Comcast has a monopoly unless you want to get satellite dish.

For the LOVE!

A Century Link Technician just rang my bell to upgrade my speed.

You'all, I've been on the phone and chat with CL for close to 2.5 hours in the past two days and there was NEVER any discussion about changing speed.

He said it was a new technology and I'd need a new modem too.

These people!

They prices are TOTALLY subjective.

I was told $20.88 in December.

I was told $33.96 the other day.

The next guy misunderstood $33.96 and heard $33.93, so THAT became my new price.

I told the tech today $33.96 and he wrote down $33.91. He then called customer service on his special line.

They took off the modem rental. ($9.99 a month) because I don't need a new modem. I bought one from them two years ago. It works fine!

So now I have no idea what my bill is going to be. SIGH.

They wanted me to sign up for paperless billing and auto pay and said, ABSOLUTELY NOT until I've seen a bill that reflects all this turmoil!
