FlyLady chat thread!
Hi mamas! Do you use the FlyLady method of cleaning/de-cluttering? Are you looking for something new to try in the new year? I am just reading her book now (Sink Reflections) and would love to hear from others who have been doing it for a while, and also anyone who is a beginner like myself!
So far I've got a homeblessing journal set up, and morning/evening routines written down. That's pretty much all I've done But it's such a relief to be able to work from a list instead of feeling lost every day when I wake up in my messy home and can't figure out where to even begin. Already, this is feeling like an improvement What are your experiences?

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
Interesting timing. I just emptied the contents of my control journal because my dd needed the binder I had used for school. I thought to myself that I should have a smaller binder and update my lists. Flylady worked well for me when I followed her plans.

I forgive people with ADHD for posting things. I'm glad people forgive me too.
I like FlyLady.

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
This article talks about the post on her page and why I won't like her FB page, despite liking her books. This isn't a matter of forgiveness, just that I don't want to align myself with this way of thinking about the roles of men and women. I don't find the video funny. https://natesparks130.com/2016/08/28/blame/

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
I have a little funny sort of related. I'm a FlyLady failure but the other day I was packing up our house in prep to move the rest of our stuff & posted on FB that I'm using the FL method of cleaning for packing. Instead of 45 minutes of cleaning & 15 minute breaks I was using 15 minutes of packing & 45 minute breaks.

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
I looked in to flylady years ago and liked her stuff. I'm pretty much an inspiring minimalist so I follow a lot of minimalism stuff on fb.
Thanks for the reminder! I will look in to her again! I remember she had good info.

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
That really is too bad about the video. I can remember reading a Christian marriage book years ago that said basically the same things, and not seeing anything wrong with it. Thanks in large part to GCM, I've grown a lot in my understanding of gender relationships since then.
But I can learn a lot of useful non-theological things from someone who doesn't share my theology. My college professors were atheists and they still taught me useful information So I can appreciate the FlyLady book for the good that it has to offer

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
One of the big things I took away from trying Flylady awhile ago was that tasks don't have to take a long time. It is amazing what one can accomplish with even 3-5 minutes on a timer. That said, I am too much of a perfectionist to follow her carefully. I get bogged down and paralyzed when things aren't exactly the way I planned. I prefer loosely following MotivatedMoms for now
I have used her packing strategies in our many moves, and that is super useful

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
Oh yes! I normally stick with a job until it's 100% done. So I was skeptical when I tried her suggestion to set a timer for 15 minutes, then stop and switch to a different task for 15 minutes, then if necessary stop and return to the first task for 15 minutes. But WOW does it make a difference! My energy is higher because I'm always fresh to the job. Apparently I just get really slow and lose track of time when I stay at a task for a longer period

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
I like her general idea but I stopped getting her emails because there was just too many. I also didn't like her insistence that you HAVE to do things her way. I am just not going to put my shoes on every day. It won't happen. I kind of go through her beginner set up and pick what works for me and modify the rest. I like the basic principals, but she can be overwhelming sometimes.

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
I like having the kitchen sink empty of dishes, but I don't see value in drying it after each use Even if a fairy offered to sit on the counter and dry the sink all day long in exchange for a cookie, I wouldn't hire her because I just don't think it looks any better that way
However, I LOVE waking up to a dish-free kitchen!!

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
I read Sink Reflections a long time ago. Loved it!
My favorite from her is "house work done incorrectly still blesses your home". Before that I would not mop often because my mother taught me the correct way of moving all the chairs first. After reading the book, I would just sweep and not mop under the table sometimes. It got the rest of the kitchen/dining mopped. I also scrub toilet bowls with no cleaner sometimes. And often wipe off bathroom counters or mirrors with just a wash cloth. Other times I will use a disinfecting wipe, but looking clean it was matters to me in between real cleaning. It is really really nice to wake up to a clean kitchen, I go through seasons that I do all the dishes at night and seasons where I don't. What ideas work for you?

Re: FlyLady chat thread!
YES!! That was another important one for me, although I still struggle with that. I should make a big sign and post it in our house
